its a good practice to have $20 hidden in a few spots. I keep $20 in my wallet, in my car, on my bike.

Why?

And the only emergency I'd need cash for is during a Hurricane and I've got 2-3 days to get to my bank which is 400 feet from my office.

No need to have a liability at my home that's practically unnecessary.

to avoid ridiculous ATM fees. Some places, especially in cities just don't take cash. Especially bars, but I have this happen in parking lots and restaurants too.

I would rather keep $20 in the back of my wallet, in my car, on my bike, than to pay $5 in ATM fees.

I agree. I can only recall one time in the last decade or so that I "needed" cash and didn't have it. Adolfo's in NOLA.

Home repair jobs or something of the sort done on the side - they get a check.

Now, I've also "needed" cash, but it has been on Bourbon St at 2 AM & hard working service industry folks didn't take cards, but I don't think I'd normally carry that kind of cash around regardless.

I normally carry around $100 in my wallet and it might take me months to use it.

I keep a $20 in my car for parking just in case. Valet/parking garage/whatever and might not have cash on me
