Saw revenues rise from a little over 1 billion to almost 9 billion,
MLB built 22 new facilities, brought revenue sharing into the game (small market clubs have a much better shot), relative labor peace between MLPA and the owners.

Can't think of another commisioner thats comes close.

Oh and please show me one shred of evidence he was responsible for the PED issue...it lies squarely on the players and their union.

Anybody have a better comissioner they can think of?

I think he's extremely underrated. He's just easy to hate on because he acts so sleazy.

Only complaint is he is biased against Pete Rose. I think the next commissioner will work something out for Pete.

Responsible? No, of course not.

Complicit? You damn right!

But I can't argue your larger point.

revenues going up so much have nothing to do with anything he has done and everything to do with the explosion of local cable TV deals

which is actually roughly comparable to what the NFL has done over a similar time frame. NFL revenues have gone from 1.2 billion in 1990 to 9.5 billion in 2012.

selig frequently gets too much blame for baseball issues which are really issues related to either the players or the owners. I don't care for some of the things he's been more responsible for (such as making the all star game determine home field advantage in the world series) but there was a time he was unfairly blamed for everything.

he might be the best of a bad lot really.

P.S. Pete Rose brought it on himself. He knew the penalty for gambling and still did it... him getting into the HOF only after he dies seems like appropriate punishment to me given he understood his actions and the potential consequences.

So a commissioner that volunteered his team to move from the AL to the NL to take advantage of the Cubs fan base, then made the Astros move from the NL to the AL to create a huge hole in the south for NL fans is doing great things for the sport?

Also, I may be very selfish, but I went from watch every Cubs game on WGN as a kid, to listening to most games on WGN radio over the internet and watching some on WGN TV, to being forced to pay for internet streaming, and fewer and fewer games on WGN each year. There's a reason the Cubs have a nation wide fan base, and that fan base is shrinking every year.

Well, he's possibly one of the most hypocritical and immoral people ever in the history of professional sports, so if he's the best commissioner ever, what does that say about this country?

Hmmmm. The NFL and NBA are working hard to make their game more accessible to the masses.

As a Baton Rouge resident, I used to be able to watch the Braves, Astros or Cubs on any given night and I could catch the Braves radio broadcasts on super watt AM750.

Selig outlawed superwatt radio broadcasts and superstation broadcasts. Now I have to pay for a season long package to see a Braves game.

Making the game less accessible to fans?

That is the epitomy of a retarded professional sports league commissioner.
