How many hours on a motor is a lot? Is there an equivalency to miles on car? Like 100hrs=50,000 miles on a car.

It really depends on the type of motor and the type of hours. A lot of offshore guys put thousands of hours on their motors, but a lot of it is trolling and just idling. Way different than somebody in a bass boat running the hell out of it.

Depending on service intervals and type of use, a typical engine should see 1,000+ hours. Lots of things go into play though. Carb. injected, direct injected; salt water or fresh water? What type of oil you use. What was your typical top RPM, engine load, etc. etc. etc.

100 hours is barely broken in IMHO. They say Merc optimax are good for at least 2,500 hours which is prob equiv to 100k on a ford f150.

A mechanic once told me that 50 hrs is equal to roughly 3000 miles.
