The TD morons on here make him out to be another Manning. He was a solid QB who came here during a time when we were desperate. He practiced for a few weeks and people wanted someone other than what we had so bad that they believed he would be great. He was ranked in the same tier as the other Lee on that roster but somehow he was expected to start right away. Let's just admit that he wasn't great and we don't know of he ever would have been.

Now he is 4 years into the minors and people want him back as if he was a Josh Booty type recruit. He isn't worth thinking about again to me with the kids we have coming in and showing interest the next few years.

Zach Lee will never be the answer for us and to me, he probably never was.

That's simply your opinion, and it is worth about as much as other people's opinion who believed this kid could have been an exceptional college QB.

I for one have no idea how good he could have been, nor does anyone else really. If he does decide to ever give football another try, I for one hope he makes it back to LSU.

Matt Mauck showed that there is value in having an older, wiser "kid" at QB.

I'd rather have a kid who we know is talented that hasn't been out of football for 5-6 years than a kid who used to be good at football and wants to try it again. Mauck was good for us because we didn't have anybody else. His competition was Marcus Randall and the worst Clausen brother. If we had recruited the kids we are today at QB, he may have never played.

I'm legitimately asking, I can't remember

Amazing how short people's memories are.

Matt Mauck won a National title as the QB for LSU.

That is a fact.

Your opinion, is just that, your opinion.

Mauck's title > your opinion

On the contrary, I am very well-versed on his situation. He was always going to get himself that 7 figure deal from the Dodgers, it just so happened to take until the 11th hour to do so. He was just using us as leverage.

What a terribly misinformed opinion. How old were you in 2003? Do you even remember any of the games?

Once again, let's just stick to the facts.

Here are Matt's numbers for 2003 when he was the starting QB for a National Championship team:

G...Cmp..Att..Pct...Yards..Y/A..TD..Int..Rate
14..229..358..64.0..2825...7.9..28..14...148.2

Keep trying, Sport, I am sure you will come up with something clever to say eventually.

That's not really news, just about every kid who plays baseball well enough to get drafted in the MLB draft uses college for leverage. Sometimes teams agree to pay enough $$ to forego college (e.g. Zach Lee) and sometimes they don't (e.g. Marshall). In Zach's case, no one expected the Dodgers to put up $5 million.

I was OLD enough to know he was a "game manager" and NOT a game changer.

"pretty terrible" may have been an overstatement by the other poster... however, he was NOT that great in the Championship game or the majority of the SEC games.

over 21% of his yardage (616 of 2825) came against W Illinois and La Tech... FACT

3 INTs combined in SEC & BCS CG's.

I never said he was perfect in every game, but to say he was "pretty terrible" is flat out wrong.

He set a record for most TD's in 2003 with 28.

Sh*t compared to JJ, he was Johnny Unitas.
