If I ever move back to Lafayette (not likely), I'd move to River Ranch. It gets a lot of hate around here for several different reasons, but to me it is the only neighborhood in the city that actually feels like a "big city" neighborhood. It's pretty much the only neighborhood where you can walk to bars, restaurants, grocery stores, shops, live music (rhythms on the river), etc...

It doesn't just get hate here, though. There are a ton of haters around the Lafayette area, too. I think most of them are just jelly, but others prefer a small town feel, or even others prefer suburbs or country living.
