best place to hang out Saturday afternoon before the game ?
Christian's Tailgate ?
Woodrow's ?
Hay Merchant ? (probably too crowded)
What do y'all think ? We will be coming from Clear Lake with a parking place @ NRG but don't plan to tailgate out there. Just need a nice bar with some bar food and good beer selection.
I may make a recon trip into town this week to check out some places.

All of you out of towners definitely do not to take the light rail on game day...
Why not? I'll be on it.

I am completely surprised there is not an official sticky thread for this, I can't recall exactly how many threats have been started on this but it seems like over 10.
Admins please help.

I'm driving in from Woodlands but staying in Sam Houston hotel downtown. We'll tailgate somewhere near there and either take the Metro or uber to the game.

I live in Houston and one place I highly recommend for the weekend is City Centre. It's right off of I-10 which is convenient and has plenty of great bars and restaurants to walk around and check out. Plus it is close to the Galleria and Top Golf which I definitely recommend. Only downside is you'll have to drive to the stadium.
... unless you use Uber and join through a referral link to get a free ride up to $30.

With so many fans staying downtown, I have a feeling the rail will be a cluster "F" after the game.

Light rail will surely be busy, but it's WAY better than dealing with parking at the stadium. The light rail gets packed during Rodeo, and it's fine.

While City Centre is pretty cool, it is neither convenient nor close to the Galleria. It's ridiculously far from the stadium.

If you're interested in a good beer selection, I would recommend Little Woodrow's (Midtown) or Flying Saucer (Downtown).

Because I don't want them clogging it up for when I need to take it from Midtown

Pre-game options (all of my options are places to watch other games and drink and have nice patios):
Christian's Tailgate - Midtown
Blackfinn Grill - Midtown
Lucky's - East Downtown
Grif's Sports Bar - Montrose
If you want craft beer, Hay Merchant in Montrose is great. A nice Friday night lounge, Rosemont Social Club is a block from Hay Merchant and pretty good. Another is Anvil and is two blocks the other way. Both are "straight" bars in a gay/trendy area of town. No one will touch your junk.
There are 10,000 restaurants in the city and you shouldn't have a problem. Open Table is your friend.

Oh ... Houston Restaurant Week will be going on and that's a good way to eat in a pretty good restaurant on the cheap.

Is Hyatt within reasonable walking distance to Flying Saucer? Can't tell from the map. Thanks!

It's reasonable enough of a walk. You'll be sweating when you arrive, but it's definitely walk-able.

That's not even close to downtown or to the stadium It's on the opposite side of Houston than where most of the out of town Tigers will be coming from. I like going there and all but it's to meet friends that live out on the west side.
On gameday, downtown or midtown will be the parts of town you'll want to be in for the combo of bars, restaurants and ease of getting to the stadium.

Yes. I've done it. 8 block isn't much if you're an able bodied person. Just take Dallas to Main and you'll be safe as those should have people around.
