i own a few 9mm handguns, glock 19, ppq, and 92fs. I've recently been eyeing some 1911s and especially a kimber custom 2.

how does the board feel about the kimber line as opposed to a springfield or something else in the 800-1k price range, and if i get the 1911, would it be sacrilege to get a 9mm version? I don't mind the heavier recoil of the 45acp, but this will be purely a range gun and 9mm is much cheaper. the other alternative is a cz75 9mm, but i just love the aesthetics of the kimber.

thanks in advance

I have a Kimber Raptor II and I absolutely love it. I think Kimbers are awesome, but I'm no expert on them.

I have a beautiful CZ 75 and love it

I prefer Springfield over kimber

I think the kimber uses more MIM parts inside that the colt and Springfield

A-1 loaded is a fine weapon

I have two kimbers, a pro tle 2 and a goldmatch 2. Ive had problems with both. The goldmatch would fail to feed on just about every magazine. Then I got some mccormick mags, and it hasnt jammed since. The tle has ejection problems. The ejection is erratic, and every so often a shell will come back straight into my face. I always wear glasses shooting thankfully, bc ive had a couple shells nail my lens. Would have fricked my eye up if i hadnt had glasses on.

If you go looking at kimber reviews online, you can find a lot of similar problems with kimber. I know every single kimber doesnt have problems, but i dont think i would buy another one. That being said, i havent gotten rid of mine.

I have been on the same kick with kimbers for a few years now. Done a lot of research and I keep going back to this particular pistol. I will own it by Christmas. They are some nice looking pistols that's for sure. I've shot a few different ones and haven't had any issues, so I'm going to give them my business.
This one is a custom tactical 2 hd btw. The eclipse is also a badass looking pistol.

Be sure and bump this thread whichever you decide to buy along with a range report.

two of my favorite firearms, right there

i have a cz75 PO1 SDP, cz75 PO1, RAMI, kimber ultra, pro carry, raptor and two solo (my new solo with the kimber diamond finish is probably my new favorite gun

it is by far the most accurate short barreled pistol for me

At one time Kimber was a great 1911, when they were one of the few doing them. But now there QC has gone down hill. I would Go Springfield, STI, and Colt over them all day.

There is nothing wrong with kimbers, people saying their QC has gone down are referring to their pistols made between 2004-09. I'll agree they were crap then. They tighten up their lines big time.

As for a 9mm 1911, I've shot a ton of reliable 9mm 1911s and I happen to own a not reliable 9mm 1911. Although that is most likely due to brand, llama.

If you are looking at the CZ75 why not consider the Browning Hi Power?

They aren't exactly the same but pretty close and I'd take the Browning any day.

And a question on MIM parts. I really know very little about the process of creating them. Why are they less desirable?

If I was spending around $1k I'd have to get a colt just to have a colt.

I will own some flavor of colt one day. Preferably a SAA but I have a want for a delta elite.
