I wouldn't appose two 18's, especially at two positions of importance those year.

Me arguing about my sources would be me coming across as douchey so I let it be.
I also have an update and "inside bias" << on the QB situation but that's a thread for tomorrow.

FYI if both #18 then can't use both in Special Teams or Kickoff, Magee is likely going to Return some Kicks, isn't Welter someone you want on Special Teams?

I wouldn't have a problem with either getting it. They are both senior leaders who have gotten better as time has gone on. Magee didn't do much till last year, and Welter looked like a different player against A&M and Iowa than against tcu.

i know being good isnt a part of the criteria for the jersey, but damn!, the kids starting for two years in a row. isnt that enough

It will be Welter. Now we will see #18 arriving 1/2 second after the tackle 95% of the time instead of #31. But the good news is that he knows the playbook and is the QB of the defense who can call the plays.

I want the 18 jersey to go to a definite contributor on the team. I'm hoping someone overtakes Welter by mid year or earlier, so then why should he get the 18 jersey to sit the bench. I guess this lets us know who our middle linebacker will be this year. I sure hope Welter has improved as much as the boss said he did.
