I like Brolin for the role. 2nd would be Jackman. Butler would be a horrible pick.
As for Ellie, I think Moretz would be a good pick. Not a fan of Maisie Williams in this role.

I don't like Maisie Williams as Ellie. She's Arya Stark. I feel like it would hurt my immersion if the actress was playing Ellie was immediately identifiable with a popular character from something else.
As far as Gerard Butler goes, no thanks. I don't want to see Joel with some fricked up 1/2 Scotish, 1/2 awful Southern accent that he phases in and out of scene to scene. I like the idea of Josh Brolin I think. I would prefer relatively unknown actors honestly. I want them to be identifiable with only Joel and Ellie.
