He shouldn't have left here to begin with.
Take the paycut; New Orleans is the good guys.

has staph...don't want

That's what happens when you go to shitty Tampa
Posted on 7/25/14 at 4:33 pm to Patrick O Rly
little surprised how many people instantly want him. did anyone follow him at tampa? he could barely play at all. hes so messed up hes stepping away from the game.
i dont want him spreading MRSA to our guys. gotta wonder how he'd be if he stayed with us.

Not to mention the whole reason he left/we let him go is because we didn't trust giving him a big contract. We basically lowballed him not expecting him to stay.
Looks like we made to right call. I don't think he wanted to play anyway. The staph just sealed the deal.

But the Saints thought his attitude might change, that wasn't his downfall in Tampa.

The Bucs have questioned his "injuries" from the beginning. The staph thing sucks and is obviously real but from all reports he was coming along a lot slower than he should have from all of his injuries.
All indications say he Charles Granted it.

We gave him a very good offer last minute.

After repeatedly expressing his disappointment that the Saints had not made any offers or serious attempts to keep him, Nicks tweeted Monday night, "Y'all know I keep it real on this. My agent told me the saints made me an offer and it is respectable..."
We definitely questioned his work ethic, even when he was in NOLA

We gave him a better offer last minute. Very good is generous. We didn't come close to the Bucs offer. From what I recall it was about what we gave Grubbs (I think slightly less even).

Dude was an amazing G and a great contributor to our SB run. Hope he enjoys life. I'll never forget what he helped here.

He needed toe surgery midseason in 2012 and MRSA in 2013. I don't know how much of that you can fake. Maybe he wasn't 100% committed to returning this offseason but this isn't a typical got paid then got lazy case.

More so the severity and recovery from the injuries than the injuries themselves. I didn't mean to imply he wasn't hurt at all though I see how it looks like that.
And that trend followed again this year with him expected to be ready by training camp(I think they even said he shouldn't miss any offseason work) yet he was still too hurt to practice.
I think Lovie decided he wasn't going to put up with it, real or not.

Well, he could be lazy about the things he needed to do to recover on time/faster.
Great player, lazy, but the guy played as a top 2 guard in the NFL for majority of his tenure here.
If he could somewhat be healthy this year and wnats to come back mid-season, I'd be okay with it as a backup.

From the looks of it he's not close to a full recovery. Nicks
quote:
Nicks was one of three Bucs players to contract MRSA, a potentially deadly antibiotic-resistant strain of staph infection, during an outbreak at the Bucs' training facilities last year. He underwent surgery in an attempt to remove it, and as of April, still wasn't close to being recovered.

How can he step away from the game with that toe?

can someone like grubbs move over to center and we just fill nicks in at the guard spot or wherever
Centers typically have no trouble moving over to guard, but not the other way around. Not all of those guards are comfortable snapping the ball, and centers are responsible for calling OL audibles (they're typically the smartest guy on the line unless their name is Pouncey).

I think he takes this year off and tries to catch on somewhere next season. He's not even 30 yet. I'd imagine the pace of recovery he's expecting was different than what the Bucs wanted and he's not Lovie's guy so no problem parting.

IF he was motivated to play hard, sure I would like him back. But the only reason he busted arse so much here was to get that fat contract.
Most may not remember but Payton actually "benched" him at practice for his poor attitude and work ethic. I forget what year that was but he said he used it as motivation, basically admitting that he wasn't trying hard.
And he is not coming back for a small contract. This is a guy motivated by money and money only.
I appreciate that he busted arse to get that contract while he was playing for us, but I was glad they didn't sink the guaranteed money into him that he got from the Bucs. We could have lost players that actually wanted to play for us had we done that.
