But I feel that many on the left, even though they may be wrong about certain areas of science, they at least seem somewhat knowledgeable about science in general and are accepting of it.

Many on the right (especially older politicians) make the most sophomoric arguments possible. Like they have a 4th grade understanding of science.

Opposite in my life, and definitely the opposite for people in the public eye.

Like Nancy Pelosi?

Seriously. Think about it.
There are plenty of dolts on both sides of the aisle. Plenty!

What I believe influences the perception is a disproportionate emphasis of one group's particular deficits vs the other.

In my experience, anti-vax people usually lean left, claim veganism, believe in chiropractic and crazy herbal stuff for curing disease, etc.

There are definitely conservatives who think vaccines cause autism and shite as well but the average anti-vax mouthpiece is fairly liberal.

Vague much?Life in general (that actually evolves)... Or life as in everything was created on purpose and nothing changes over time?

My response was clearly referring to the creation of life from non-life.

Meh.

Faith, belief, etc. is not that rational.
There are folks who are religiously atheist.
There are obviously millions who've given their lives d/t Faith.

The latter is a fairly high price for an agnostic.

So you'd agree that life as we know it evolves..? Is that where we are at? And now you're arguing where said life comes from?

Atheists and theists have one thing in common. Neither can say they KNOW God exists/doesn't exist. We are all agnostic unless you're insane.

Why is it predicated on whether I'm insane?

most of the celebs are left leaning but in person, all of the in person I know who are anti vaccine are right.

to OP, yes, there is faith in the scientific method. that is will deliver the results that you desire.

Nice deflection

Many people die from faith. Many people die because of someone else's faith. Has nothing to do with knowing.

They KNEW they'd get 72 virgins in their heaven (which I'm sure it's different by your definition) by flying planes into buildings and killing thousands of innocent people? No, they had faith in that. Completely different.

None of this has anything to do with evolution though.

Not quite.

There is no doubt in my mind that some animals evolved over a long period of time but I am not convinced that human beings (Homo sapiens) evolved naturally from apes over a long period of time.

I agree with Zecharia Sitchin and the ancient Sumerians regarding the creation of modern human beings on Earth.

Which is pretty sad in 2014 but you still have old buffoons beating their chest in triumph over "knowing" evolution is all hogwash

They may seem as so, but I doubt they are. For the most part it's a lot of people who know nothing about science telling other people who know nothing about science that they know nothing about science.

There is this kind of fetishizing of science that is not really based on fundamental principles of the scientific method, but rather because it's a trendy way to appear smarter and therefore superior to others ("Oh, hey, I watched Cosmos last night. Yeah, I'm pretty into science and stuff"). Still, I wonder how many people who "believe" in evolution take that approach not because they have studied it, but because someone smarter than them told them this is how things work and they accept it because other people say these smart people know what they are talking about.

It's actually not totally unlike religion in that sense. "You wouldn't understand, but trust me because it's in this book." Now, obviously, scientific discoveries are arrived at by a defined method and are reproducible -- but it's not these left-wing warriors who are engaged in this scientific debate. They're just quoting Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens and smiling smugly about how much smarter they are than theists.

Just so we are clear, you do buy into evolution on some level (even if your definition is clearly misguided).

Progress is progress I suppose
