Here's why...

From a Pew study:

Okay, conservative candidates can work with that.

Okay, conservative candidates can work with that.

Wow, didn't expect this...conservatives can definitely work with Hispanics on this issue.

Makes sense. Most of them are running from corruption and running to opportunity.

Again, makes sense. Conservatives can easily work with this.

But...

WTF????

I mean, these guys are running from problems in their country where the root cause behind said problems is big government. The GOP needs a charismatic Spanish speaking candidate to teach these immigrants from south of the border about the perils of big government.

The good news for conservatives is the issue has been identified. How can conservative candidates convince Hispanics that big government is not the solution?

seems like the issue is socialization into government redistribution schemes and in 2 generations, there is a major shift to being on the teet. that first gen seems to be lock step with establishment GOP

Conservatives have been dreaming about winning Hispanic voters for a long time now. They haven't done it and it's actually getting worse for them.

It's simple in my opinion. One Democrats are more wiling to promote and use government services to help new Hispanic immigrants and they remember that down the line. Two conservatives complaining about illegal Hispanic immigrants and saying we need to close the border and that they are a menace and that we shouldn't give them any government services are not helping at all.

Conservatives have lost Hispanic voters for generations now just like they have lost black voters and how they are now losing Asian voters.

It takes some higher-level intelligence to make the connection between free stuff and oppressive government.

The smart people are fine in their native countries, we're getting the runoff- dolts stampeding north towards the land of honey and manna.

Simple as that imho.

Good post, and its why I have been saying that the "Just pass amnesty and get that issue off the table, then hispanics will give the GOP a second look because they are natural conservatives" mindset is fricking retarded. Hispanics are the most pro-big government group out there.

Amnesty is not the key to winning the hispanic vote.

It's going to take hispanic conservatives being able to explain why smaller government is better.

Here is what I say, if your vote is determinant on whether we as Americans should grant amnesty to crooks and not protect our border then you are a POS anyway.

i'm much more concerned if a person's vote is determined on whether Americans should pay for their personal goods/wants

i'm pro-immigration and pro-emigration

i'm pro-small government most importantly

This is what I call assimilation.

I'm not very optimistic. I see a future America where immigrants will turn this country into the very country they are fleeing. It's like we are being flooded with a bunch of masochist.

I'm getting to the point where I say f' it, middle class be damned. Just get on board with the crony capitalist republicans, take advantage of the cheap labor, and ensure that you and your family remain part of the upper class. Future upward mobility will be more and more difficult in this country due to an encroaching federal government.

This way of thinking has crossed my mind as well. If the country is irreversible, better take care of you and yours.

I would imagine many in the Nazi party eventually had to make this choice. Better to get on board and live, if you had the opportunity, than die opposing the establishment.

Honestly, I'm in a good position to get on board.

That's a hard sell for people trying to establish themselves in a new country. They generally don't know the language, don't have a lot of money, ect.

The trend illustrates that, with later generations being more sympathetic to the smaller government message (not where you'd want it). So I suppose you attack it from the bloat/waste end. The problem is ineffective services at a high cost that is a drag on economic oppertunity. It's the direction the GOP should be attacking from anyway. Don't cut but streamline. In practice it should look the same, but that phrasing doesn't sound like your just looking to cut programs for poor people.

It's not hard to see what an obese dinosaur of a federal government we have. Selling the solution is a bit more delicate on the PR front. IMHO.

Smell test. Republicans smell like bigots to Hispanics.

That's not to say we shouldn't secure the border, but chanting self-deportation won't help us either.

Once we get past this, I think Hispanics are going to be a lot more open to voting for Republicans.

By the way, I think the notion that Hispanics come here just to suck off benefits is a myth. I don't think they expect much in the way of social services because they come from countries that don't have any, and I've seen too much ancedotal evidence to believe that they're not willing to work. I know a business owner who owns an industrial site that said all the white and black people who apply for jobs leave after the first day, but the Hispanics work their butts off.

I don't think you can convince them or anyone else as long as uncle sugar is around handing out the goodies.

No, they just need fewer xenophobes. Jesus! People act like this is rocket science. It's not. If you want a group of people to vote for you, don't insult their culture, make fun of their language and/or otherwise treat them like crap.

My U.S. (gop) Congressman recently said "I'll do anything short of shooting them to stop illegal immigration". How do you think that plays in the Hispanic community?

That would be massive. Initiate a townhall meeting in Spanish and all of a sudden, this voting bloc relates to you.

Castro brothers (SA, TX) no doubt will be doing this.

I'm with you on that. If the next 2 elections don't show any promise of change I'm jumping on the bandwagon to ensure my success and place in the ruling class.

For too many people of all colors ... "We'll take from others and give you free stuff to not work, do nothing, live how you want to live, never be accountable for anything, free healthcare, etc. ... because you are entitled to it and the rich white dudes are the devil" .... is a pretty persuasive argument vs. anything the GOP and/or conservatives can say.
