You'd rather watch an older player that will put in absolutely no effort over an exciting young player that will give his all and that actually deserves to be there?

I have no idea who the younger player is. I do not watch the MLS. I would be interested in it, but I just have not taken the time to follow it. From the casual fan's perspective, you want Donovan, Keane, Henry, etc regardless of their performance.

I know a lot of people that watched the MLB All-Star Game just to see Jeter's first at-bat. My dad only really cared about that. He barely gave a shite that Mike Trout was on deck.

Like who?

This has been my favorite part of all these arguments. There are still no better options (at least on the international stage). Other dudes are having better MLS seasons.

As you get older, there are better athletes and skill players that can replace you

Typically athleticism goes down over the course of the career, while awareness and understanding of the game increases. At a certain point, physical abilities erode faster than mental abilities replace them. For a soccer player, the peak is usually between 26-28. A smart, technical player like Donovan can be good until his mid-thirties if he keeps his fitness up. This guy was a starter on a mid-table EPL team two years ago, and now you don't think he's good enough for an MLS all-star team?

He is not that good anymore compared to some of the younger talent in the MLS.

It's just weird that so many people are giddy about trying to kill and bury Donovan. I've learned that in the past 4 months.

I think he should be in the All-Star Game because that's what it's all about. It's to see all of your favorite players play on one team. Even if it's just a nod to his service to the league, he should be there.

To say that people want to kill and bury him is absolutely absurd. This board is still a Landon Donovan fan club for the most part. In fact, the majority of American fans are extremely protective of him. Anyone who is remotely negative about him is crucified. No one wants to kill and bury him. Some people do note that he is on the decline, and that never sits well with fans of someone so iconic to them. I understand that completely. It's just a bit dramatic to say that people just want to get rid of him. The people with negative opinions are clearly in the minority. This happens to every almost every star to ever play any sport.
