Using a job offer to get a raise at your current job: Advice?
The fact that you have to resort to using the threat of leaving in order to get a raise should tell you something about your current employer. You unwittingly answered your own question at the moment you asked the question.

I've never threatened to leave for another job, but I've been asked about my future with my company and I've spoken my mind. I've told them that I'm perfectly happy working with them for the rest of my career. But, I told them that if I'm stuck in the same position for much longer, I couldn't promise I wouldn't look at my other options. I really wasn't doing it for the money, just hated the position I was in and kept watching people with the same or less experience move on. I explained my credentials and how it wouldn't be difficult to find another job. I didn't make ultimatums and told them I just wanted my career advancement to be more of a priority. I wasn't looking for anything specific. Two months later a promotion to a new role is in the works
