That's the fricking point. It is hard. Assuming Coaches always know best in something that you admit is fricking hard is stupid. That's why people know. Anyone can have insight. Read Bill Barnwell's thank you for not coaching columns. He's never coached anyone. He knows a lot better than almost all coaches the quantifiably correct call in situations that coaches routinely botch. It really is a thought-provoking column. I challenge the unfamiliar to check them out.

fans cannot possibly take into account all the actual variables such as scheduling, officiating, injuries, weather, team chemistry, player psychology, fatigue not to mention incorporating those same variables from the opponent. and this doesn't include blind luck that happens in every game.

coaches actually consider all these factors. that's why teams have an entire staff-just to try to grasp all of that. just because a fan guesses right doesn't mean he has any inkling of what's going on compared to the coaches. again, it's gross oversimplification.

Really dude. u cant be this ignorant. Why doesnt Bill trade in the journalism gig for the much higher paying coaching gig, since he's so freaking intelligent.

I believe I said, "coaches make mistakes". So, where you get this "coaches always know best" from I don't know.

If you want to think Joe fan or Joe writer knows the game, on the whole, as well as successful HC's who live and breath the game 24-7 and knows his players and his been on the sideline making calls all their coaching lives, knock yourself out.

It's easy to 2nd guess and not so easy to make calls under fire. I'll take the "insight" of a successful SEC HC any day over the "insight" of any writer or fan, but each to our own.
