At least that's the idea of the movie.

just got back from seeing it in theaters. the first half of the movie was fantastic. great comical moments, great action and suspense.

the last hour couldve been shorter and wouldve helped it a lot. the quick pace really slowed down and the ending started to unravel.

but it was a really fun movie. it was also very well shot. one of chris evans' best performances i think.

Glad some of you are enjoying it. I don't get what the critics are seeing in this movie.

I was able to suspend my disbelief, go with the train concept and all... no problem. I thought it was okay until they got to that final door, then things just fell to pieces.

I do like the big reveal having to do with the intentions of those involved, but the climactic finish was just too scattered and almost meaningless.

yeah thats what i meant with the ending started to unravel. it reminded me of matrix:reloaded (not in a good way) when Neo meets the architect.

they really took their time and embellished that whole sequence. things got a little out of hand as well.

everything up to that scene was great to me though

The elites built the train. Why would they invite the poors onto the train to starve them into cannabalism which would eventually cause revolution?

Doesn't make sense.

Why not just invite the elites and a few skillful poors (used for train maintenance) onto the train and provide the same accomodations and treatment to all on board?

There's plenty of room for interpretation, I chose to think that it was maybe a last ditch effort of being nice. Maybe it started with good intentions but then humanity devolved from there.

BUT, you also must remember the idea of "the balance." Harris and Hurt's character believed that to be integral to the survival of the species. So maybe it was intentional to invite the poors.

The assumption being that EVEN if you invite only the upper class, that eventually someone would become "the poors." Why not just start from square one and construct society intentionally that way?

both of these work for me. he talked soooo much about balance it would make sense. And maybe use them as the lowly workers and such. If they ever needed a specific position they always just chose someone from the back and eventually even used them as parts.

The movie requires too much suspension of disbelief. I kept waiting for them to give a somewhat logical reason behind the train and the Wilfred Documentary didn't give me enough.

The tracks would be so completely covered in ice and debris, there is no chance in hell, the train would ever stay on the track.

The train just didn't appear to be remotely large enough to sustain that population.

Where was the bug birthing room? If you had such a massive amount of bugs, then you needed to hatch those bad boys somewhere.

Same for the beef and chickens. Seems like there would need to be 100s of cars we didn't see.

Maybe the movie would have made more sense if it was a massive ocean liner and maybe there would have been path around the would following the warmest water to keep from freezing in place.

I get that they don't have time to show us the trek through 100s of cars but if you want to make you movie somewhat more believable, then the train needed to be a helluva a lot bigger.

The reaction of the other passengers was odd. Seems like there would have been more panic when bloodied tail enders showed up.

Why were so many of the rich folks insane? Seems like the axe crew with hoodies were one step from devolved orcs.

They rest of the rich folks didn't seem to give a crap yet they attacked Sonny Chiba in the last car.

What was the deal between the clairvoyant chick and the fat dude who wouldn't die? And why exactly wouldn't he die?

Tilda Swinton is one creepy arse chich. She could easily pop up in my nightmares at some point.

For the most part, I enjoyed the movie up until the last second disneyfied ending.

I didn't hate the movie but I couldn't recommend it to the average person.

Oh, one thing I did hate...Slllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww mo. God I hate slow mo and if I owned a studio and saw slow mo being used I would fire anyone and everyone involved with that decision.

Maybe spoilers.

You're asking so many questions that I don't think anyone involved ever gave a shite about. I thought it was terrible, and not just because of having to suspend all belief, I thought the dialogue was fricking awful. Everything is spelled out word for word like a kid wrote it. A couple of the actors do well, but they can't overcome the shitty lines written for them. The others either over act or are completely forgettable. Captain America's speech about hating wilford at the last door was the most contrived predictable bullshite ever, and made what little was left of his character a joke. In fact, all of the characters were terrible, and I didn't even flinch at their various over-dramatic deaths because nothing endeared them to me. The ending scene was god-awful in every way, with that weak arse attempt at a gotcha plot twist. I'm only being so hard on it because this premise actually could have been pretty great if all but a couple of he actors and the entirety of the production staff were not allowed anywhere near it.

It started off okay and then went to shite. After the Egg scene it all just sucked.
