Now thats just dumb. Do the math. A presidential election gets 50% voter turnout. St.George has gotten almost 25% of voters to sign a piece of paper. It wins easily on the ballot.

That seems to be the biggest problem with this incorporation attempt. Both sides have hands covered in dirt, yet they all claim cleanliness. The St George idea to create a new school district they could control and have more say with their tax dollars is a great idea, considering Kip told them to do it, but now you have both sides with corrupt idiots as speakers for the sides. Politics today friggin suck!!!

hurt feelings? no

You just kind of come across as a condescending a-hole when discussing this subject, which is strange considering that you rarely ever come across as such when discussing any other issue.

I suspect a lot of the people who signed initially are having second thoughts about it.

All of EBR votes on the incorporation. Not just the new area of St. George.

Considering that the map they sold the idea on has changed drastically since they first started pushing it, I'd say that's very likely the case. Every new annexation pushes the property taxes higher and higher.

100% WRONG!

ONLY residents within the proposed boundaries get to vote on it.

What's the current tax rate proposed?

Again, wrong. The budget initially had a 20mil surplus. The advocate article researching taxes on the MOLA annexation said it would be a 9mil hit. 20-9=11....

I don't know if anybody knows the answer to that. But every major sales tax generator that gets annexed creates a void that must be compensated for somehow. I've always thought that they'd have to raise the property taxes, anyway, especially considering the lack of existing schools in the area.

I wouldn't bank on everyone who signed the petition actually supporting it in the the voting booth.....but I do think your prediction that the measure will almost certainly pass if it comes to a vote is accurate.

What are the annexations currently? I usually stay out of these threads because it is like reading about a divorce. Two sides that should separate for their own betterment, but think they are owed everything.

What happened with some judge ruling against the annexations?

This board is really the only place I have seen a group of St George residents against incorporation. Probably have talked to three dozen residents since it started and they were all very vocal about wanting incorporation.

Maybe there are just as many against, they just haven't been vocal. Which makes me believe they won't vote with such force.

Costco, Celtic Media Centre, Baton Rouge General, Mall of Louisiana, LSU, and 800+ acres on River Road nearing the Casino.

These annexations are going to hold up? I thought there was some sort of ruling or opinion issued.

Honestly, my only issue with it was that they were trying to unjustly hoard all of these tax generators. Now that they are all wanting no part of it, I couldn't care less. If the residents are gullible enough to believe that they'll have some little utopia with the same millage rate as they have now, that's their own problem.
