Man I love this beer. So happy to be able to get it locally now.

I agree. SF was a nice addition to the LA market, if only for their Java Stout.

I still haven't bought any since they've been in LA.... I can see myself enjoying a lot of them this fall/winter though

Half the brewers in the state came out of Deschutes. Most are paid very poorly. NOLA should pursue getting a successful brewer from a top notch brewery.

Just because bo pelini was a damn fine DC does not mean he would be a good head coach

Their Java Stout is the only one of their beers I've had that I think is good--and it is great. The IPA is meh. I was happy to see SF enter the market here just for the stout.

Then fire Pelini and hire Jimbo Fischer. There are a lot of brewers (Ale Apothecary, Boneyard, and Crux Fermentation Project come to mind) that have Deschutes pedigree.

He probably sees the Mecha is selling enough and doesn't see any reason to tweak it.

I thought they were losing money on mecha. I read that somewhere in the past. What happens with all the mechas that get old in the stores. Does nola eat that or does the distributors eat some of it?

Seems like a brewer should be able to figure our if their brews are bad, ok, or good but this seems to happen with lots of restaurants. The owners swear they put out a good product when it's not the case.

Not saying Nola puts out bad products because I like a lot of their stuff. Just think their hoppy beers (pale ale, ipa, and DIPA) could be tweaked to make them better. I will continue to drink rebirth and hopitoulas from time to time but would drink even more if it was better.

I think it was true starting out, before they starting canning it. Not sure if still the case.

No

The owner does not care about quality as long as margin dollars are acceptable

Topping the night off with a couple Santa Fe Brewing Company Imperial Java Stouts, saw it at Calandro's the other day. Delicious.

I won't name names, but considering one of the Nola guys and I shared a SW Dank Tank Red Hot Mama one night and he tried to tell me it was a sour, I'm not so sure some of the decision makers know any better.

You do know NOLA has about 23 employees right now. Not all those guys are brewers.

I find it funny that a few people hate their DIPA and now they should go hire some new brewers. I can tell you the person that is responsible for Mecha recipe has been brewing for a long long arse time. Maybe he's too old school for the newer hop head generation. But they do have some younger cats in there with good ideas and good things coming.

I don't hate Mecha, but it is subpar. They could do so much better. I don't know what the reason is, but I just wish NOLA would make an IPA I want to drink.

Yeah, I wasn't gonna touch that. Without knowing who it was, there's no point. And I don't want to.

And I don't think the Mecha is a DIPA you can hang your hat on, I've said that before. But one underwhelming recipe does not characterize an entire brewery. I have a lot of respect for some of their recipes. ICS is solid and it's a GREAT base stout to take on character from their various tweaks to the beer. I like the Brown. Hell of a lot of flavor for the size of that beer. Rebirth is solid. Prefer Envie, but solid. Love 7th Street.

This. Their funky stuff is going to be a lot of fun once they get it settled in. I'm excited about where they're going.

I'd still like to see a better DIPA.
