Yep Wax Lake Delta. One of the few places in Louisiana that is building land.

It's a lot of silt but there is more that goes off the continental shelf in the gulf from the Mississippi River. The atchafalaya delta is just shallower and is able to build land because of that.

We really screwed up how the river builds land over the last 100-150 years.

Great pictures! I love the marsh. It really is an under appreciated ecosystem. It's beautiful.

That's what I hear. I've got a couple of friends who've hunted there and they say walking in that mud is like walking in quicksand.

It's probably like Venice in that you have to push over a lot of mud flats to get to the spots sometimes. Not like some places where you can drive your mud boat right up to the blind.

it's mostly all sand down there, very little mud.

and yes, it's like quick sand.
