How long should insurance company pay for rental after accident?

My wife was in an accident last week that wasn't her fault. She was stopped at a red light and someone ran into the back of her car and pushed her into the car in front of her. We didn't get a rental until almost a week later because the other guy's insurance adjuster (USAA) was dodging my calls. They called me today and told me it was a total loss and we agreed on how much they will pay me for the car. They said we can only have the rental until next Wednesday and that I would have to "make other arrangements such as paying for the rental myself, public transportation, or ride with friends." He said I probably won't get the check for another week after that. Is it unreasonable for me to ask them to pay for the rental until I get the check so I can buy another vehicle with it?

You can get it from your insurance and have them dicker with usaa

No. You are not unreasonable. Ask the adjuster if he'd prefer y'all use his so pant and insured.

Time to make that call and get advise from your lawyer...

it is not unreasonable at all...frankly, you don't have to ask for shite, as it is their responsibility to keep you whole...and that includes transportation until you can arrange for permanent replacement car...
you have to be reasonable, but them trying to tell you what you can and can't do is nothing but a bluff, imo...

So your wife's car was totaled? If so, their insurance should provide you with a rental until you are able to find other transportation (within reason). If it wasn't totaled, their insurance should still provide you a rental until the repair is completed.

Long enough to go buy a new car. Usually no more than 30 days.

I don't know why the OT thinks USAA is such good company, they are a cheap shitty insurance company.

I just went through this. Like this exact situation.
Get your insurance company involved. I've dealt with USAA before (different accident) and they are incredibly shady.
I'd ask for them to pay for the rental until you receive payment for their insured driver's at-fault accident. This would probably help bump up the check getting to you.
Hypothetically, some people can find a replacement vehicle in a week but you'd need cash in hand for this to work.

i went through a similiar situation. ins co didnt want to pay for a rental after my wife was rearended. i just simply told them they should try to keep us happy since their driver was is the wrong. we got a call back in about 2 hrs saying they had called and gave our name to a car rental place, and all we had to do is go get one.

Sorry for your loss brother but usaa is one of the insurance companies on my shite list along with liberty mutual, Allstate, usagencies and any company with "general" in the name.
It's been said already but your claim isn't settled until you get the check and you still have a year on any claim before it's officially closed.
Was the adjuster bobby barbee?

What does your policy say? My daughter had a rental after an accident for 21 days.

We are going thru the same thing. Their insurance adjuster dodging calls and not responding to emails. We were out of town for awhile. Fast forward 6 weeks, still nothing. On last Friday I filed a complaint with their insurance, found out who was adjuster's boss and left him a nasty voice mail with threats of lawyer and La Insurance Comis involvement. Next day, it was all handled complete with rental car. I HATE insurance people. Their goal is to delay payment as long as possible.

My State Farm policy paid 80% of the bill up to X amount of dollars. Let's say it was $1,000.
I could have rented an "economy" for $10/day or a "luxury" for $50/day. I would have had the economy car for 100 days+ or the luxury for 50+ days (this example calculated before the 80/20 rule is applied)

Now you should call the insurance guy and be like "Hey, good news! I found a Louisiana statute that allows you guys to pay for my rental car until I get the check from you so we don't have to worry about the law cutting off my rental car."

Sounds like she was at fault for hitting the car in front of her.
