Well, the deadline for signing a long term deal is July 15th, so I'm not sure that'll happen. They probably should have filed the grievance sooner in hindsight. Perhaps it was a calculated risk, thinking if they did happen to win, the Saints wouldn't have much time to appeal.

This really doesn't change much except continuing the talks for a contract. He'll probably get between $10-$10.5 now that he's labeled a TE, and would have likely got $10.5-$11 if labled a WR, IMO. But I'm glad this part is over, and we can continue with the negotiations.

But I still lost a lot of respect for him because of this whole thing.

I can't blame either side. Jimmy did what any of us would do in our place of work, given the opportunity. With his career likely being around 10 years or so, gotta get the money while you can. And the Saints are trying to fit as many quality players as they can long term under the salary cap. Both sides did the right thing, I'm just glad to see the Saints win this one.

I wouldn't.

But I don't expect him to do what I would do.

Why? Jimmy Graham had nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying to be considered a WR or Hybrid WR/TE.

The only thing that him filing this did was have ignorant fans call him greedy. When he scores his first TD next season, everyone will be back on the Jimmy Graham bandwagon.

isnt this just the deadline to sign the tag? i thought you can still get a deal done even when tagged. the tag just prevents you from becoming a FA. you can renegotiate your contract at any point

From what I understand, he has until the 15th to sign a long term deal, or he can only play under the tag this year.

I Doubt that either side really ever thought he was going to sign the franchise tag. Both sides were just playing to win leverage in long-term deal talks. We will probably see him take the deal we offered him before. There's no sense in trying to appeal it because if they lose again he's stuck with 7M when he could be making 10.

If you had the opporunity to increase your salary, with no risks or drawbacks you wouldn't?

Well the Saints and Florio

Sorry, should have clarified, I meant among fans. Reading other teams' boards, or the comments on PFT, they all swore there was no way the arbitrator would rule in favor of the Saints. Most people got sucked into the "line up 67% in slot our split out wide" stat, and didn't look at the other factors.
