Anyone know when teal season will be this year?
Posted on 7/2/14 at 10:21 am to icegator337
Starts mid September and runs 3 weekends(16 days).

wont be set till late july as it is every year.

Nothing official yet, but I would bet money on September 13-28 with a 6 teal/person limit.

That's what I'm going to recommend to the Commission in the morning.
Early-season migratory birds like doves and teal, are set at the July Commission meeting; regular duck/goose seasons are set at the August Commission meeting.
I will also be proposing regular duck season dates tomorrow for consideration and public comment in the next month. At least that's what a couple of Commissioners wanted. I expect a lot of feedback from Coastal Zone hunters.

Where will you be posting proposed dates for big duck season? I would like to see that. I saw that the numbers for breeding pairs came in yesterday and it appears that there are strong duck numbers!

Im done believing that joke. They hype everybody up with "record numbers" every year and it ends up being an upset.

yeah, but ... they give us hope!

Ohhh boy, here we go. I'm just a part-time CZ hunter so curious to see any tweaks that may be made. I'll look forward to the posting on the LDWF site or hopefully Larry can copy that notice into here for us.

There will be a press release by the end of the day with the proposed dates, but they will be exactly the same as last year with calendar adjustments (everything will be 1 day earlier).
Because the calendar is as early as it can possibly be, and because of such a delayed migration last year and associated poor hunting in many coastal locations, I expect there to be a lot of discontent with a November 8 opener in the Coastal Zone. Next year, the second Saturday in November will be the 14th.
The problem with proposing dates for public comment without a structured survey is that we get limited feedback, and what we do get is dominated by people who disagree. That is why tweaking regulations annually is counter-productive, and why we are working on an e-mail based quick-survey methodology.

The joke is thinking that continental duck populations equate to hunting success in your particular area. Even guys hunting on the same WMA have highly varied hunting success.
Even last year, by mid-January our aerial surveys showed higher-than-average numbers of ducks, and the total for the Mississippi Flyway was very good.

Thats true Mr Larry, just licking my wounds from the past few years.
I have done better on public land in NWLA than I have done at my farm in Arkansas and on the White River in Arkansas, just blows my mind.

I wish parishes with little or no duck habitat could set their own duck seasons. I personnally would like it to run straight thru, and I'll take 45 days. Like Nov1 thru Dec. 15. We don't kill shite in the second split.

You aren't alone. From the summaries I've done of the mid-winter data over the past 20 years, I think the BPop estimates are becoming less and less relevant to us down here.
Almost show time ......

Yes there will be because there will probably be a late migration again this year because of the cold spring and rice harvest for 2nd crop is going to be way behind. Most farmers probably won't even have their 2nd crop ready by Nov. 8. That means they will be cutting fields during duck season. That is going to suck.

Our rice crop will be earlier this year than it has been in several years
We will be cutting in July like the good ole days. Lately we don't cut til end of first week in august

What about the dove opener? Isn't this the meeting to set the 30 minutes before sunrise start for opening day?
