I enjoy this show mainly beacuse of the premise. I think it will end up being a good one... if they give it enough time.

Just watched. Great ending, Jamal is awesome

Anyone watch last night? They keep doing just enough to make me watch one more episode.

Last night was an improvement. Bassam is moving along the arc that was obvious from the beginning, but it's still entertaining. Nothing really has changed since they were children. I was even starting to feel some sympathy for Jamal, who seems to understand himself fairly well, but then he blew it at the end.

I'm surprised they are moving so quickly with him taking over the presidency.

What was that sh*t about??? I didn't even understand why he killed her.
Also Bassam killing that dude came as somewhat of a surprise. Guess he's in it for the long haul

Oh, who knows. My best guess is he felt he revealed too much truth about himself, too much weakness, and he couldn't stand the thought of her living with that knowledge once he decided to stay. He wouldn't even have to be seriously concerned about her blackmailing him for this to be consistent with the dirtbag that he is. If she's dead, he can simply forget he told her those things. Anyway, that's how I tried to reconcile the apparent randomness of his act.
OTOH, maybe in a deleted scene, she wouldn't give him his shell necklace back.

I knew going in that this show would be about mild mannered pediatrician turning into a tyrant but JAM! They kinda moving this along fast huh? Season 1 ends with the end of Jamal and Bassan as the president? I'd hate to see Jamal go because he is very entertaining.
My thoughts on the information provided and the preview next week left me feeling that Bassan doesn't want to be the president but manipulate Jamal, after all he has been doing that by "advising" him since he showed up. When Bassan spoke with that aid that told him that it was his uncle Tarik that bombed his own base to justify gassing the town, and that his father had no choice but to deal with what had been done, combined with the ending where Bassan says that "Jamal cannot rule" (something along those lines) told me that just as his father wanted peace, and his uncle wanted war that they both "ruled" together to balance each other out. So likewise he now sees that Jamal cannot rule without Bassan.
Also when he asked for those names of those that thought Jamal cannot rule, my mind immediately jumped that he wanted them dead bc they'd be the ones on the outside knowing that Bassan is manipulating Jamal. But now based upon what the preview showed that he "can't stand to betray" Jamal, and that those people have dreaded the day that Jamal would one day lead, has me second guessing myself. Thought it'd be more natural to still have him rule from the shadows instead as the president himself.

So the sister in law is annoying as frick.
Any chance bassan offs his son for being a queer? His butt buddy will definitely be getting an ax to the head,
The wife is still dumb as a doorknob.

didn't think about that. Good call.
I got interrupted right after he banged her so I didn't hear the dialogue I'm assuming he spilled the beans to her about the Sheikh? A shame too b/c she was pretty sexy

If attacking dying old men from behind and killing women is awesome then he's awesome.
Without the assumed power of his position he’d be a sniveling puss

He did have the conversation with his wife about the people he's killed, but he didn't give the girlfriend any details about why he wanted to run away to the Maldeves beyond he hates being leader and was happy there when he was 11. That's what made the murder seem so out of the blue. It's like the psychopath switch got flipped back to "On" thanks to Bassam.

Yea I saw that part. She's an intriguing character because we really don't know what her motives are. She does like being in the limelight though. And if this were a real Arab country, her throat would've been slit many years ago for the way she talks back to Jamal

meant he's an awesome character. obviously killing folks is not cool

I agree he’s the most complex character on the show. He’s a leader who defers t5o a younger brother and a strongman who preys on the weak. I think he killed the prostitute, not for what she discovered about him, but rather for what he discovered about himself. Killing her allowed him to continue deceiving himself.
