What Fun Bunch said is all I've seen.
For me, it's about the West being nuts and Houston having no leverage. They can win 45-50 games, have a good season, and miss the playoffs. Plus Houston had to move Asik. Obviously have no idea about the negotiations or other suitors for him, but I think Demps could have held firm on lottery protection and still gotten it done.
We'll see what else he has going on though.

Its a win that we don't have to lose Ryno in the deal imo.
The trade was to ensure the bird rights to him as well.

Interesting tidbit that probably means nothing at all...
Windhorst was on Mike and Mike this morning and he was talking about why he thinks Lebron is going back to Miami, part of the reason is he hasn't seen a tremendous amount of cap clearing moves...
Except Houston which has moved Asik, "but that deal isn't even done yet and is on the backburner".
In context, I think he meant some other things need to happen, like salary clearing, and by backburner I think he meant no one is talking about it anymore...but it was still an interesting throwaway line.

McNamara had some interesting tweets related to this
People just get excited at the potential of the draft. But I don't have a problem with the current strategy of trading cap space and picks to shift the rebuild window forward.
Those upset that we gave up 2 picks for Holiday, they're looking at it wrong. 3 years worth of picks and cap space have given the team 4 B level players to put around Anthony Davis. You have to look at the big picture over a reasonable time frame. Was the Gordon resigning a mistake? Yes, but the team is a good SF signing/trade away from righting that mistake and having a balanced and potent roster.
The team is fine. Are they locked into the current build strategy? Yes, but so is every other good team. The only good teams with flexibility are the ones that are coming out of an intentional contract cycle that would let them blow things up a la Miami. And they still only have as much flexibility as their star players allow them to have.

What I find so hypocritical: When teams put future 1st rounders in trade, they are desperate. Recent 1st rounders and nobody says a word. Shane Larkin was a 1st round pick in '13 and Dallas gave him up to get Tyson for a year. Nobody says a word. Hawks use Noguiera to dump Lou Williams and again, nobody will criticize it. Picks are magical, but once they become actual players, they are fine to trade.

Yeah, I've said a few times on here that a lot of fans overrate draft picks way too much.
I get why. The draft, and suspense of the draft are both fun, and when you take that away some fans are disapointed. It's like Christmas when you get your presents early, and you end up watching all of the other kids unwrap theirs on Christmas day. We'll never know who we would have selected with the picks we gave up, but if you gave me a choice of Holiday and Asik or two out of Noel/Burke/Saric/Payton and a 2015 mid 1st, I'm taking the former every time.

It's not just Holiday and Asik, you have to throw Anderson and Tyreke in there too. With the Asik trade I suspect we've seen the end of people yearning for Robin Lopez on this board.

Like ATL says, you need to include Evans. That move after Holiday along with Gordon still being on the roster is what confuses me the most.
And again, you have to include cap space. Say they take Burke and still move Lopez/Vasquez for Evans. They have $7M in surplus cap space to play around with. They could still get Asik for the 2015 pick. They have Asik, then maybe McDermott or Gordon or Stauskas or whichever guy you like.
You can prefer the Holiday trade and not be wrong, but to say it is clearly the best asset management is up for debate. And we can do this with the them getting Holiday and not going after Evans too.

I agree, it all just depends on which method each person prefers. While we gave up somevaluable asssets (picks, cap space), I like the aggressive approach of getting proven players, rather than depending on rookies to develop. But that's just me, and I can defintely see how others would rather use those picks/cap space and hope that we hit on them.
Also, while I agree that you can look at the Anderson and Evans deals in conjuction with these, I like to look at them sepeartely since we didn't really use the asssets from any of those deals to make these deals. Maybe having certain players already on the roster influence what the team targets, I think we would have done the Holiday deal regardless.

Oh, you mean Payton who may or may not be as good as Jrue.
Philly traded him for a guy that won't play for 2 years(saric)

Philly originally drafted Payton so I'm going with that (assuming we didn't pull the trigger on the Jrue trade, we'd need a PG if Evans is our SG)

My biggest complaint about Demps is there doesn't appear to be solid plan on how to build this team. He's like a compulsive shopper; he throws shite in his basket because he thinks he needs it but realizes he doesn't when he gets home. Compulsive shoppers don't normally return items because they think they'll need it later. The items in Demps' basket happen to be Guards.
We have 2/3rds of our cap space dedicated to Guards...and none of them is a Superstar. Why so many 1s and 2s?
So, we finally get a chance to get a quality Center (at least on the defensive side of the ball) and we have to rearrange the team once again. If we have to move Ryno to get the Asik deal done, we'll be simply swapping one big man for another; they have totally different skill-sets...and we need to have both. At the end of the day, we'll still have our cap dedicated to 1s and 2s.
One step forward and one step back. That's how it's been since Dell has been calling the shots!
That's how I see it
