Grades for the first case study are posted. The TA is removing points for not alphabetizing and indenting references.

Yeah, I lost a couple points for not having headings. I had my running header, main title page, initial heading and references heading. I didn't have any in the middle of the document. I lost a couple points. I have no intention of perfecting my APA at this point. I have exactly 2 APA style papers left in my collegiate career, calling it good enough.

That's good to know. Thanks for the heads up. I hate taking the time to do something the correct way only to discover the TA's weren't grading for it to begin with.

I remember receiving a disappointing grade for a paper in one class with only the vague feedback that I needed to review APA rules. Another student who received a 100% on their submission offered to send theirs to me so I could look at as an example on what I should be doing. However, upon reading their paper I discovered they had not followed APA formatting either. Their TA simply decided not to deduct points for it. Very frustrating.

I would really appreciate a Data Analytics Concentration review. I am starting the program F2 2018!

I did the specialization, not the concentration.

ISDS710 - Data Analytics - This is really Marketing Analytics, you do some excel based calculations, a touch of linear regression, but more focus around CLTV, online marketing metrics, etc.

ISDS702 - Quant Methods in Business - This is a heavier statistics class, digging into the details on regression and multi-variate regression and ANOVA. Well taught and worth taking regardless of the specialization or not.

I don't remember the course code for the 3rd one, it's a healthcare informatics class. I went specialization instead of concentration specifically because I had no interest in taking this class.

I agree with everything Marek76 said. I'm doing the Data Analytics concentration, so I took the last class that he skipped, HCAD 750 Healthcare Informatics.

I had it with Gherfal and I was very disappointed. It was a moderate writing and factoid memorization class that felt very thrown together. What we were told to read and study rarely ever matched up with what was on the exams and I don't feel like I learned much. I was really excited for that class, too.

Honestly, I'd avoid the Data Analytics concentration and just pick 3 electives that interest you. If I had the whole program to do again I'd take these 3:

ISDS 702 with Koksal
MADM 751 with Meeks
FIN 710 (or maybe MADM 725 for fun)

I think FIN710 goes down as the hardest class I've had in the program. I can't comment on 751, heard good things about it, but I avoid classes with a lot of writing.

I heard it was tough, but I thought the subject matter sounded interesting. Also, I was initially considering the Finance concentration when I first started the program, so I had it mapped in my schedule until LSUS added the (then) new concentrations and specializations.

FIN 710 with Hsieh was my only class that I got a B in. 701 was a breeze in comparison.

When checking out my dashboard in Moodle, I realized that one of my past courses has disappeared from the list. Is this normal, or should I be concerned?

For 710 and 720 I found making excel models for the math makes the exam fairly easy for the exam. In fact, when I took 701 we had a textbook that came with excel "toolkits" These toolkits contained formulas for IRR, MIRR, etc.... You have to tweak the formulas to match your problems for example a problem may only to to year 5, while the excel model goes to year 8. But is it just as easy to make your own. And excel has built in formulas for things such as NPV. Just about everything in FIN 710 was touched on in 701 and the toolkits had models for everything. The first 25% of 720 is a review of 710. Same exact material. Of course all this could change.

No. I don't know the criteria LSUS uses for removing them, but I only have my current course listed. I know a few weeks ago, though, I had my previous 2 or 3.

As long as it's on your transcript, you're good.

A few questions for you guys if you don’t mind.

How long did you take to complete the program? 1 class per session? 2? What’s your typical weekly time spent on each course?

Little background here. I just pivoted my career from Technical O&G to Big Data/Cost/Financial O&G that I hope to make a long career out of.

That said, I believe a program like this could help boost me in the right direction of the industry.

I’ve reached out to the program for more information but haven’t really been provided with much feedback.

Any additional information is appreciated.

I have young kids and a job that can require extra work hours depending on what projects are going on. So, I went with one class at a time. I'm nearly done and it's taken me about 2 years to complete the program. The time spent varies from class to class but I'd say I spend a couple of hours each Monday through Thursday night and about twice that on weekends. I rarely studied on Friday's since my family typically goes out to eat those nights. These are just averages, though. There were courses where I spent significantly more time than that and some that I had to remind myself of because I'd nearly forget I was even taking a course.

I've been happy with the program overall but there are definitely some dud professors and courses. As I've said in a previous post, however, I would avoid the Data Analytics concentration / specialization. Ask for course and professor recommendations here (or search through previous conversations) and take the electives that interest you.

I had Gherfal for HCAD 750 as well. It was an autopilot class - very little interaction with him. It's structured very similarly to F. William's MADM 701, with a weekly test, a weekly writing assignment, and a weekly discussion board post. Read the book, memorize obscure stuff, take the test and write about something you learned. The writing requirement wasn't as intensive as MADM 701 is. I did enjoy the material though.

I started this past March. I've taken 2 courses a semester with the intention of being done as soon as possible to get it over with. I'll be done after this next upcoming term ending in December.

I am a single dad with two young kids at home every other week and run a consulting business, so my hours have been pretty flexible.

Some class combinations were extremely manageable - ISDS 702 and ISDS 705 took a combined 15-20 hours a week.

Others were absolutely brutal, like taking MKT 701 (easily the most work intensive class in the program) and ACCT 701 together, which was about 40-60 hours a week.

The combination of FIN 701 and MADM 701 this term is taking about 25-30 hours a week. Somehow I'm still carrying a 4.0, although MADM 701 may change that based on how it's going (tests are poorly designed and assignment grading is extremely inconsistent).

FYI, Turnitin will be down from 10am to 6:30pm Central on Saturday 9/22. If your class uses it and you have an assignment due this weekend, make arrangements to work around that.
