Ours was FitBit and how they compared with the other fitness tracking wearables. I found alot of my useful information from the quarterly reports from the Fitbit website.

Does the project 1 paper in MKT701 have to be 20 pages or can it be less? The instructions say it is "limited to 20 pages" excluding a title and reference page. She then states that anything over 22 pages will be docked points.

I interpret that as the paper (excluding title and reference pages) can be under 20 pages.

@Mikegor85

You are getting one of the most demanding courses out of the way first. MKT701 is an extremely high workload class.

Many of the MADM classes have similar traits such as weekly quizzes and even quite a bit of writing. Most of them even have some sort of project. However, Dr. James is really piling thing on and giving very short deadlines too.

Having a 20 page project due the 4th week of class with a single weekend where you have all the information needed to complete the assignment is unique to Dr. James.

On the other hand, it appears the only new assignment for Module 4 is the weekly quiz. Since the project is due Friday, at least there's nothing to worry about mid-week other than the project. I fully expected her to drop another application assignment on us this week!

Mikegor85 don't let MKT701 scare you. Its my last class and by far the most demanding and time consuming.

And for what its worth I've heard most people come out of this class with a better grade than they were expecting.

@Mikegor MKT701 definitely a time consuming course. My attitude towards it has a lot to do with it, but I'm spending considerably less time with it (and MADM720 this session) than I did with either MADM715 or FIN701 individually in the past couple terms.

I'm just following her project template paragraph by paragraph and it makes it pretty easy overall. Just follow the template. You'll get in a groove and have more content built before you know it. Just don't go over the max allowable pages (I believe it's 20 or 22) and you'll be fine.

Any updates on how BADM 790 (Process Improvement) is going this term? I’m very interested to hear the thoughts of those enrolled.

Also, MADM 701 with Kungu is going great. After reading about some folks’ dissatisfaction with Williams, I’m glad I decided to give Kungu a try.

So MKT 701 is my first course in the program, and as I'm seeing many people here say that it's the most time-intensive course, I feel confident moving forward (especially since I'm doing quite well thus far in this one). That said, I'd love some advice as to the next two course choices and how to best make use of the offerings based on my personal life.

According to the course rotation on LINK , it looks like the following:
Summer session #2 options: Econ 705, ISDS 705, MADM 760
Fall session #1 options: Acct 701, Fin 701, MADM 701

Caveat: my wife is due with our second child at the end of August, so I'm hoping to do another hard one next session and a fairly easy one during the first fall session. Course advice (with teachers) is much appreciated (and yes, I've read up on which teachers are awesome and which teachers should be avoided if possible).

Thanks in advance!

Econ705 (Shaughnessy), ISDS705 (Linn), and MADM760 (Meeks) aren't bad at all. I wound up taking all 3 together in last Fall's session. With ISDS705 (Linn), it was really like only taking 2 courses so it isn't as bad as it sounds. I would get someone's input that took these courses in 2018 to see if the structure of the courses have changed with 'no textbooks'

Workload wise: MADM760>ECON705>>>>>>>>>>>>>ISDS705 (show up to the exams)

ACCT701 (Ambrosio) was my first course in the program last fall and found him to be very accessible. Course was fair and not that difficult. I don't know how/if the course has changed since last fall.

FIN701 (Vines) I found this to be the most time consuming course (along with MADM715...ugh) in the program to date. The course really needs a textbook (but that wasn't Vines's decision) but he's always doing Zoom sessions to help students. I took this course this year so I doubt much will be different if you take in fall.

MADM701 (Knotts) Was a very straight forward course with her. MADM760 prepared me for the writing with it and didn't find it time consuming at all. I think a lot of one's experience is also the coach you're assigned. I had Dr. Kimberley Williams as my "coach" for the course and she was very fair with grading and giving feedback. I'm currently taking her MADM720 course now which is very much similar to MADM701 and equally straight forward.

Workload Wise: FIN701>>>>>>>>>>>ACCT701/MADM701

Will depend on your background and who you take but this is a general idea.

Thanks for the reply! So based on what you've said, I *could* take Linn and Shaughnessy at the same time (Summer #2) and it wouldn't be that bad? I could then take Knotts in the fall (provided she's teaching it) since it seems like it's not terrible...

Any other thoughts? (I know other people are looking for the same info...)

Yeah always double up with ISDS705 with Linn. If your goal is to get done as soon as possible, you'll be kicking yourself for not doubling up with it.

I would get advice from someone that took his ISDS705 course 2018 SpringAP2 to see if it changed at all from when I took it 2017 FallAP2. I'm doubting it did but I don't know that for a fact.

@DarthPasta I did your same pairing in Fall of 2017. ISDS705 with Lin and ECON705 with Shaughnessy. Although ECON may have changed with the new textbook policy ISDS 705 has not changed as of Spring AP2 2018. I had a coworker who was in ISDS705 last term and it was the same format - 3 proctored tests.

@Craig_miamifl, @ Winchester12, @mtntreks

Thanks for the breakdown fam.
I don't have a background in business that's probably why this is incredibly difficult for me.
I'm going to take one class at a time.
Really appreciate you!

Is the study guide for FIN 701 a single document or does he parse it out module by module? Can anyone post a link to the latest version? I am doubling up on FIN 701 and MKT 701 this fall and I want to get a jump start on FIN 701 because I'm concerned about the workload. Thanks!

quote:

I'm in the mist of my 7th and 8th classes in the program. I'm attempting to finish this program in 5 sessions. What I've realized is that because of when I started (Fall AP2), I've forced myself down a much harder road than if I started during Fall AP1. The reason I say that is that my Spring AP1 and Summer AP1 have been MADM 701, ACCT 701, MKT 701, and FIN 701. I have no choice but to pair those up because they are AP1 classes. If I'd have started during Fall AP1, I would have attended 3 AP1 sessions and could spread those out.

I just wanted to put this out there so that it may help some poor soul not to do what I have done.

I did the same thing as you and started in Fall AP2 last year. I decided to go with 6 sessions and make it one full year.
- Fall AP2 - ECON 705, ISDS 705
- Spring AP1 - MADM 701, ACCT 701
- Spring AP2 - MADM 760
- Summer AP1 - ISDS710
- Summer AP2 - FIN 710, ISDS 702
- Fall AP1 - MKT 701, FIN 701

The timing works out much better when you start in AP1 based on the core course rotation. However, if you are too late for AP1, might as well start in AP2, you will finish at the same time as if you had started in AP1, but you will get 2 terms with a single class instead of having to double up every term. I had planned to take FIN701 in Summer AP1, but it was full and then have MKT 701 by itself at the end. No dice. After all of the writing in MADM 760, I had really hoped ISDS 710 would be a break from that, should have just crammed MKT 701 into this first summer session. However, on top of school, have 3 kids, new job, and into year 2 of a high conflict divorce. A guy can only take so much!

Took ISDS705 (Linn) last session, format has not changed. If you’re doubling a semester when this class is available, triple up. Literally CTRL+F PDF search

Any feedback on ISDS705 w/ Gibbs?

I liked Gibbs and thought the class was relatively easy. Each week consist of the following.

1.) answer 10 questions at end of chapter. Just copy and paste from book with page number into excel doc provided(1hr)
2.) 10 question quiz, 10min
3.) excel tutorial- just follow The video
instructions that walk you through the exact assignment(20-45min)
4.) weekly “project” normally something small in excel or research.(1hr)
