Has anybody in Kungu’s MADM 701 seen anything about the grading rubric(s) for the Weekly Discussion Forums and Module Assignments? I’m trying to get an idea of the length requirements. (I HATE writing papers!)

Good thing my Data Analytics concentration will be heavy in Marketing and not data analytics

I haven't seen ISDS710 but sounds like the consensus is it's closer to Marketing than Data Analytics. I just finished HCAD750; another Data Analytics concentration course that was much more in line with Health Care than Data Analytics. I feel like saying I have an advanced degree in D.A. will be a sham and very disingenuous.

The longer I'm affiliated with this program, the less impressed I am and the more jaded I become. That said, I am learning stuff even if it's not what I expected or wanted... it's an MBA with some name recognition... the price is right. The longer I'm in the program, the less likely it is I'll transfer out. I'm not sure I would recommend this program to a new candidate though.

It's not just this school. It's University of Maryland, College park, Alabama, Ole Miss and all other institutions of higher education with the exception of MIT etc. Most state schools simply lack the resources to focus on the technology side of stem related areas like DA. Technology simply moves too fast for these old professors. They are good at what they know and that is Marketing, Heath Care etc. It reminds me of when I was taking a digital media class back in undergrad at UMD and the professor had us watch the movie "The Social Network". I was like, "I payed 1.4k for this class?

More information is available this morning. I plan to take a look in a couple hours when I have some down time at work. Let me know your thoughts when you do!

So i just listened to some of the video instructions/over view for ACCT 701. Honestly, is it too hard to record a video of the teacher actually teaching over the PP slides? It would really enhance the learning process to hear from McGee's personal experience as an Accountant etc. I read her Bio and she must have many experiences/views that would help in the learning process. This is very unfortunate. Would be nice to even have a recording of one of her actual face-to-face classes uploaded. Instead, i'm learning on YouTube from a guy who constantly shows his muscles and says he is the strongest CPA in the state of Florida (Little does he know that he is basically an adjunct professor for LSUS' AACSB program). He does a great job though but come on..... Actually, it wouldnt even have to be McGee but any professor who teaches the ACCT 701 face-to-face. Just put a camera in the back of the class once a week, record it and upload it. Easy

I do something similar with classes I teach for the government. I installed microphones around the room and a camera focused on me and the whiteboard. I record the lecture and upload it so students can either view in advance of the class or review after-the-fact. So we are capturing not just the lecture, but also the student questions/discussions. We are looking at doing distance learning as well and off-site students will have access to these. In addition, I make a series of 3-5 minute tutorial videos that focus on one specific task. I upload these videos to the appropriate module and include hyperlinks to these videos in various locations (slides/newsletters/etc). All graduates of the course maintain access to these folders so they can refresh themselves on individual tasks after they've left the classroom. While we do run into issues here and there, we've had pretty good feedback so far.

This is his first semester teaching MADM 701 so I doubt if there is any feedback just yet.

Has anyone taken MADM 720 OR 752?

Currently enrolled in both MADM 720 and ISDS 710. I don't know if I'll be able to handle both of these classes at the same time. ISDS 710 has a few 5-10 page case analyses (4) a decent amount of reading, required forum post and responses, plus a final cumulative final exam. MADM 720 honestly doesn't seem that bad but trying to take it together with ISDS 710 is a no go.

Just so you know, he's ammended this. The case analysis now has to be 3-5 pages, not 5-10.

@DieDaily

Thanks for the update. I did read that in the Question forum. Hoping the final exam is open note/open book.

Has anyone took the week 1 quiz yet for ACCT 701? If so, was it difficult? I want to go in and just get it over with but I am nervous... I haven't been in school in 3 years. I have read all the readings, PP and feel like I know the material, maybe i should just go ahead and try =(

Update: Took it at work, was not that difficult after all. Good luck =)

Appreciate all of the instructor feedback. Was going to take MKT 701 (James) and MADM 701 (Kungu) together, but may just opt for MKT on its own. :)

Jeaux Cool I'm right there with you! I can't wait to be done. Too bad I doubled up with MKT 701 and MADM 752.

On a side note: I took two terms off and was absent from tiger droppings for a while. Nice to be back and see a lot of new people keeping this forum going.

Good luck everyone.

How has your experience been? I was informed I still have some GI BIll benefits that may cover grad school depending on the school. I'm in the process of seeing if LSU is one of the partner universities.

The thought of going back to school is daunting to me. I finished undergrad Magna Cum Laude, but would tell you I was the first to not deserve that. I literally crammed my way through college. The fear of failing the tests is what drove me not the motivation to learn the material.

I'm entrepreneurial by nature, run my own side business, but do work in the corporate world. Ideally would like to be self-dependent career wise moving forward, but feel like passing up a complimentary MBA could be a mistake. I also suck at excel outside of vlookups and sumifs.

LSUShock,

My GI Bill covered all of the LSUS program. I have the post/911. It was fairly simple to get everything taken care of. Reach out to the veterans department at the school, there are a few additional forms to fill out to get to the VA.

Highly recommend pursuing, especially if it is paid for with your benefits. With the post/911, they pay for the school and pay you a housing allowance, so essentially they pay you to get an MBA. Can't beat that.

Overall, I have really enjoyed the program. I am going to finish in 12 months, which was my plan from the start. Fortunately for me, I was over half way done before they introduced the "free textbook/proctored/no review" stuff. You're going to have classes that are inconvenient and a PITA, but just persevere. Anything worth having is worth fighting for. There are some great courses and instructors in this program. If you have any questions about courses or instructors, let me know and I'll be glad to help out.
