Yeah, you really don't need a hammer drill for something like this. I definitely could have used one but my drill is a pretty powerful plug in model and with a half inch masonry bit it did the job. A little slower than if I had a hammer drill but I got it done. Don't go with a cordless drill unless you have a new, powerful one, at a full charge. Those things always crap out on me at the worst time so I bought two extension cords and I can get anywhere on my property with any power tool now.

yeah, i've got cordless but that thing sucks. i need a new drill anyway.

Tell that to my 20v Max Dewalt Hammerdrill.
(But it is new like you said)
I was wondering if I needed a masonry bit when I drilled into that brick. It was like butter.
Side note. Costco has the drill I have (Top of the line Dewalt 20v Hammerdrill) and 20v Impact for like 220.
