That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. What made WM so great was ball control offense and great defense. But my guess is that Belton is more of a pocket passer/zone read kind of guy.
Auburn was in NC game last year and had a legit shot at winning it all...
I know, there is HUGE & I mean huge difference between HS football and college(especially when on the SEC level).
Yes WMs strength was smash mouth football and a strong defense. From what I understand listening to the WM coaches, WM is still going to use the option as their bread & butter but they are going to mix it up with Belton as the QB.
Belton progressed by leaps & bounds last year as a sophomore QB, which was extremely rare in the Shows era. Had Belton not got hurt mid-season, I think WM would have made it to the Dome and quiet possibly won state. But injuries are part of the game, so it is what it is.
We will see how the Auburn style offense works for WM. I know WM is going to have a pretty stout team this year. I can't hardly wait.

it tells me that they no longer expect to have the best talent in 5A every year like they used to... ball control offense leaves you vulnerable to just getting shut down and shut out in 2014 football.
WM over the last 25 years has had average talent for the most part. There were a few teams that was loaded with D1 talent but most of the WM teams have been decent athletes with average size and a few above-average players.
WM has had all-state OL-men that were 5'10 200 lbs. I've seen DBs for WM who were 5'7" 150 lbs lay out RBs who were 210 lbs.
On the HS level(or any level), its not so much about pure talent as it about coaching, player discipline and skill.
WM has been successful because of a systematic program. Most of the kids that play at WM have been running the WM offense & defense since they were very young. Couple that with great coaching, a strength & conditioning program that is on par with most college program.
I am not sold on the current WM offensive coordinator(Glen Hunt). For years, Shows was the OC. Now coach has passed on, its going to be up to him(the new OC) to try and keep the winning tradition going at WM. I hope he does well and I will support him but my feeling is that he will not do as well. I hope that I am wrong.

13 teams left
i'm trying to think of two teams i'm missing bc Teurlings and Zachary don't look to be top 50 teams...

I talked to a PBS player who just graduated and said the team lost a lot.

well there's one of the teams no one would have expected... who's the D1 talent on a team with a new coach and new quarterback?
from 14-20 the only team i might favor Livonia against is Brother Martin

Meh, I'd like to see what some of these teams OOD games are.
Posted on 7/27/14 at 12:36 pm to GhostofJackson
probably the same as last year's...

D1 talent alone doesn't decide wins
Karr and st aug can attest to that.....

Exactly, but outside of the "freak" athlete, a lot of what people call "talent" were just average kids who worked their butts off and turned themselves into above average athletes. I've heard "that kid has talent" about a lot of athletes I know, and many of them would have been just another player in programs that don't go above and beyond.
