quote:

You cannot force democracy on the Iraqis or anybody else. It doesn’t work. They don’t understand it or even really want it. They may be too immersed in their own belief of Sharia Law to embrace liberty or at least at this time. If people vote for Sharia Law, they vote for Sharia Law. We tried. What can we do? We have lost thousands of American lives. We have lost thousands of lives on the Iraqi side and tens of thousands have been wounded. We have spent $2 trillion – say that again – $2 trillion, and upwards of 200,000 Iraqi citizens, aid workers, insurgents have been killed. That’s the conservative number. Liberals will tell you it’s almost 1 million people. I don’t know what the number is, but after all of that, hundreds of thousands of lives, $2 trillion, the best minds in the world trying to do it, it’s about to fall apart.

quote:

But, anyway, all of that is gone. And yet, this is something I think that we can come together with, on the right and the left. And it’s this – I have more of a chance of hacking off my loyal listeners and audience by saying this, but so be it: Not one more life. Not one more life. Not one more dollar, not one more airplane, not one more bullet, not one more Marine, not one more arm or leg or eye. Not one more. The people of Iraq have got to work this out themselves. Our days of being the world’s policemen, our days of interventionists is over. If we are directly attacked, so be it. But this must end now.

I can get behind that.

I suppose this is either a profound or hypocritical statement for Glen Beck to say, considering there are so many liberals that have been saying get out of their and all that other crap for YEARS, and considering Glen Beck has often ran with the banner of John McCain saying to "send more troops"

Whatever.

It's a shame he didn't feel this way before the first Iraq invasion.

He's still a nutjob and pseudo-intellectual, but I give him credit for saying something his followers may not like to hear.

Actually you can force it. We just never tired to at least not at the level of force it would have taken. Which I'm not saying we should have.

I was never into the whole nation building thing to begin with. Bomb, yes. Build, no.

The guys who really got it right were George H.W. Bush and Brent Scrocroft. They wrote:

quote:

- Trying to eliminate Saddam...would have incurred incalculable human and political costs.

-We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq.... there was no viable "exit strategy" we could see, violating another of our principles.

- Furthermore, we had been self-consciously trying to set a pattern for handling aggression in the post-Cold War world. Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations' mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression that we hoped to establish.

- Breaking up the Iraq state would pose its own destabilizing problems.

Smart men.

Beck is a flip flopper that hates Obama. Not unlike a lot of conservatives.

He was a war monger with bush in office, now he has flipped.

All because of who is in the oval office. Nothing more.

I heard him say it; I agree. But I had already been convinced by Michael Schueur's "Marching Toward Hell". That book is a tour de force when it comes to win Islamic hearts and minds.

We need to ramp up our oil/energy production. Let Europe, Russia, China and Israel deal with those psychos. At least until they hit us again. This time...gloves off. Teach em' a lesson for good. It's either their 'innocents'...or ours.

This was the US policy, more or less, on Sept 10th, 2001

How did that work out for us?

Muslims are taught from birth that ALL infidels must die. It will come down to us or them. There is no other option

It's our job as Americans to try and leave this world in a better place and to fight for rights across the world, or out civilization will fall apart.

Ftr, I disagree with beck. I lean towards if some arse needs whupping, we go and whupp it.

I'm a bit of a simple minded individual here who hasn't ever changed his thinking in this matter. It was my dads belief and one Ive always just accepted.

Bush been out of office for 6 frickin years. Little late to be evolving on a position because of who is in the WH like some are suggesting.
