out there today. Sure the Superdome has hosted a shite ton of Super Bowls, NCAA Final 4's, and the Sugar Bowl but in the grand scheme of things it's probably a middle of the road facility compared to whats out there today. It's not in the top 1/3 of NFL facilities even after the upgrades after Katrina. I am by no means saying it is terrible, quite the opposite. All i'm saying is it is not the world class facility that people make it out to be now. The city of NO is a world class place to have Super Bowls and Final Four's but they need a new facility to keep up the rotation of holding huge sports events. Cities are building world class facilities left and right and pretty soon N.O. will be left in the dust with an aging facility.

What makes the Superdome and New Orleans a great spot, is that once you arrive in the city you never have to drive your car again

It is the location and not the stadium. New Orleans is a top notch place to party and Gameday is awesome being able to walk from the party to the game and back. It isn't a hard concept.

As a contrast Jerry World is on the outskirts and not downtown.

Eh I agree. It isn't up there with all the brand new stadiums. But what you don't realize is something it offers that most other places don't. The stadium is in the middle of the city. In even walking distance to almost anywhere you need to be when a big event like he Super Bowl is in town. Not saying no where else is like that, but on top of that the party atmosphere adds to it.

I got to chauffeur around and even attend parties at the last Nola Super Bowl with a celeb. Like you hear everyone say, she always commented about how it's always everyone's favorite city bc they can attend different parties and be close to everything. She said in most cities they have to choose a certain party and that's it because is 45 minutes away from everything else. The proximity is what keeps Nola a steady destination for events.

And one of the most historic.

330 millin dollars worth of renovations and quality of it disagrees with you. It's practically brand new and still has a long life ahead of it.

The location of the stadium in relation to other amenities, hotels, and attractions pretty much can't be topped.

No other city is knocking down hundreds of millions/billions of dollars worth of real estate in the heart of their downtown for a new stadium.

The only way a new facility in NOLA will top the dome is if the saints temporarily relocate while a new dome is being built where the current dome stands. They could built the best sports venue the world has ever seen, but if it's not on poydras it ain't gonna top the dome.

The superdome is one of the better sports venues

You have the original jerry world smack dab in the middle of downtown. You can walk from the FQ to the dome, hotel to the dome, cbd to the dome...it is just awesome to have that kind of place in a metropolitan area.

Now a few things. The surrounding downtown area is in desperate need of improvement. There really isn't much to do downtown or in the FQ. That is the number one draw no other facility can really match. Additionally, facilities like jerry world are going to be the norm, but I think they've done a great job keeping the dome up to date.

As a stadium, it is a marvel that has stood the test of time, and not just as a football venue. New Orleans will keep drawing Super Bowls and big events there so long as it is kept in great condition.

out there today.

Not really.

It's perfectly serviceable and in about as good a location as you can get, though.

I agree. The only reason it's even considered for these events is because they picked the right location for it by building it so close to the French Quarter.

If the dome was built on the Westbank somewhere, New Orleans would never be considered for any of these prestigious sporting events. Within the next 10 years another stadium will need to be built and when it does come time to build it, I hope it's placed on the river.

The Superdome is awful inside.

That being said, NOLA is the absolute best place for hosting large sporting events.
