Going to be in DC for a few days later this summer. We are actually staying in Virginia and we are looking for the best possible way to get into the city. We have heard taking the metro is a good idea. Should we just park at one of the stations outside of the DC or should we park somewhere in DC and just take the subway everywhere throughout the day?

Where in VA are you staying? And the likely answer is to leave the car at your hotel or the Metro station if there's parking.

Drive to metro park and ride and use metro for getting out and about.

I'd recommend driving to Ballston and parking in one of the garages there. Catching the orange line in Vienna and taking it all the way to DC is somewhat of a hike.
