I need a handgun. Here are the complications. I want my wife to be able to use it. However, she only has one hand. So she can't handle a slide, same with a strong kick, though she has a decently strong wrist. And want decent stopping power. Was thinking a .38 or 380acp. Under $200.

Advice?

Edit: Thanks everyone for the advice. Bought a Hi-Point .380 Semi. Was cheap, gun, extra clip, taxes, and 50 rounds the out the door was $189. Wife could operate the slide as well. Took it out and put all 50 rounds through it straight out of the box without cleaning. Had 2 jams, one each on the last 2 clips. Once I had it dialed in it was shooting in roughly a 6" circle from 25 feet. Considering my decent for a newb, but shaky aiming I think it did pretty well. It outshot my friends kel-tec .380. I know it's a cheap gun, but she shoots straight, and doesn't jam anywhere near as much as their reputation. She is all cleaned up and looking pretty now.

Also mailing in my paperwork for my CCW today. No range or class requirement in my county.

Just one hand or a one hand and an elbow? I got a friend who can operate a slide but he's got a nub.

I suggest a revolver either way, but you both need to practice.

But you need to think long and hard about this.

I know if I pull a pistol out in self defense it's a 99% chance it is getting used. Otherwise it's staying hidden.

Your life may be in danger and you want to spend 200 bucks? Get a Glock 21 and call dawg23 and tell him it's an emergency.

Oh, and I would buy a personal protection dog like a Swinford, fully grown and trained.

And I say this in every thread: Talk to an attorney and have his / her contact information available before you start carrying.

a 3 second google search produced a FAR better handgun for not much more money. You'd be better served waiting for something like this

Ruger SR9C from PSA

Does not compute

I understand if money was a limitation and you need it now. But it's tough to chance your life with that .

Please consider the warnings you have received here for the near future. Think about trading up for a more reliable weapon once you have a bit more scratch
