Unfortunately Australia is the most difficult country in the world to get a visa for. You need a company to sponsor you. I had a nice gig lined up a few years back which would have put me living on the Gold Coast. The contract was awarded to a competitor.
The cost of living is sky high in Australia and you are also required to contribute to the country health care system and the retirment system. So something like 52% of your gross income goes to the government.

I hear it's tough to emigrate to Canada too.

Then Colombia might be better than South Carolina.

Not sure about emigrating but companies I've worked for over the years have sent me to Canada on numerous occasions to introduce new technology. If you don't say the right things to the Canadian immigration authorities they will put your arse back on an airplane down south without hesitation. They are very serious about not allowing Americans into their country to take jobs away from Canadians.
Unfortunately the US doesn't take the same approach. I've had some really bad experiences working with Canadians in the US.

Same in Germany, I used to work for a German company. They loved coming to the US, they would bring an extra empty suitcase just to shop for clothes and shoes for their family. Cost of living there is expensive, you don't see many stand alone houses there.

Belize on the coast. Relatively undiscovered, growing, currency is pegged to the USD, and the people are lovely. Buy a catamaran and visit all of the beautiful cayes.

They definitely have a lot of apartments, but stand alone houses aren't a rarity or something.

First country I was going to say was New Zealand and the others sound about right. Singapore is another option. Somewhere with stable government, low taxes and preferably a beach.

I thought Melbourne was insanely expensive until I spent a couple months working in Geneva.
