Do you check check all of their accounts? What do you look for in them? What are some positive and negative things that stand out?
Do y'all actually have and use ways to look at deleted posts?

I'd also be interested in hearing answers to those questions.
In addition, what if you are unable to find a Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. for the person? Does that bother you?

We have a potential employee coming in for an interview next week through a head hunter. This is a department head position with a 6 figure salary.
The first thing a few of us did after deciding to bring this guy in was check FB, Instagram, Twitter, and linkedin. I will be one of the ones interviewing him and found it extremely advantageous to know more about him outside of the resume.

My boss told me, one of his friends is head of HR elsewhere. According to him, first thing they look at is Facebook

I was on a plane ride this week with an HR Director of a Company in Louisiana who also does recruiting. He says that's the first place he goes to is Facebook to see how that person is putting his business out there. He also says he passed on candidates with impressive Linkedin profiles but were knuckleheads on Facebook.

When I was getting interviewed they told me they couldn't find my social media. Told them that not everybody has linkedin, twitter, Facebook or any other form of social media

I thought most people with half a brain only allow friends to view their FB stuff

This is why I hate Facebook. Now you sneaky employers prying around your business, and some folks will embellish their doings on FB to offset it.
Is this any different than an employer going to your local bars and watching what you do there from a dark corner?

If you're so concerned about it, clean up your FB account and change your privacy settings. They can't see what they can't find.

I am a good interviewer and screener, able to quickly assess skills, accomplishments, and cultural fit.
If somebody is a top candidate with a track record of success, then I really don't care what they do away from the office. Some people can work hard and play hard too.

I'm not sure if our HR department does but, when they send me the name of a new hire I look at their social media stuff if it is easily accessible. If I can't find them I don't worry about it.

Not in HR, but a few years back we were given some resumes for and intern position. We looked up the nams on FBI that we had it narrowed down to. And eliminated done due to pics posted on their page.

I try to scan candidates social media after an eye opening experience about 5 years ago. I was just about to offer a middle aged woman who had interviewed well and had great references. On a whim I thought to myself, wonder if she's on FB? I checked and her FB was full of racists and hateful posts. She was damn near a white supremacist. So, I learned she was not only a racist, but an ignorant fool and moron as well. Sometimes a quick glance at FB can reveal alot about a person's character and who they really are. They may have all the skills I'm looking for, but not the right "fit" to be a part of my company.
