Do I need to play Fall Out 3 before New Vegas?

I don't remember shtt about Fall Out 3 since it has been so long and played the game on PS3. I'm about to start a run of New Vegas with a heavy modded SweetFX profile to bring it up to times.
Question is, I could watch some YouTube summary of FO3 to get me back up to speed but is it required to play? Like in HL2, you really want to carry over the feeling of desperation and lost you develop before playing the 2 DLCs. Wondering if this is the case for FO3 and New Vegas.
EDT:
For those not fimiliar with SweetFX.
Download 1.5.1
Download Profile (Better to just make your own sometimes)

they're on opposite sides of the united states so there isn't much overlap.
there's more references to fallout 1 & 2 than there are to 3.

Seems to me everyone either considers fallout 3 an all time great, or never made it out of the vault. There is no middle ground

I remember FO3 as fun, just didn't give the game its due and RPG it up.
It was during the tail end of my PS3 years, we just ran through it one weekend. So i barely remember the story. Oddly, I remember playing the co-op RE5 around the same time, now that was a blast.

like most bethsoft games, fallout 3 isn't super story driven.
it's just a fun post-apocalyptic sandbox to screw around in. I enjoyed the exploration far more than the story itself.

No. They aren't related at all.

Yeah that is what everyone says about FO3, and maybe that is the reason I don't remember much from the main campaign.

Yeah..The environment tells the story, like dark souls. Love that

Dark Souls = Too Slow
I dont think ppl IRL even move that slow.

You put on too much armor.
Shoulda wore light armor and evade/parry ... completely different from heavy armor/shield builds.
Fair warning...encumbrance is a mechanic in fallout 3 too.

I don't necessarily agree with that. I'm not saying the story is super strong, but it was compelling enough to track my father down. There's just so many side things you can do that the main story can get lost. Also, with no actual cut scenes and just puppets giving dialogue, that takes away from the story element just a bit.

It's still a very slow paced game either way

Masterpieces are meant to be savored
Heck from what I remember...fallout 3 is even slower paced. Yeah you get guns but you've got to walk fricking everywhere

I appreciate the combat, but there is no denying that it's slow paced.

Yeah the game is still super slow.
You walk, run and swing in reverse. The game is a game of rolling.
