My league is trying to find a fun way to determine our draft order. Anybody have any good ideas that you do in your league. We are only 18 so some things might not apply

We have a program that one of or league members wrote that randomly determines the draft order and divisions each year.

i have this crazy new idea... it is going to blow you away and become a huge hit this year!

Things you will need
1. 1 piece of loose leaf paper (copy paper will do)
2. Pen or pencil (marker or crayon will do)
3. Hat or cap ( a bowl will do)

ok, first take the paper and cut out 1"x1" squares. Ever how many teams you have in your league then thats how many you need. Next write the numbers 1-10 or 12 on each piece of paper depending on how many teams in league. Then fold each paper and drop it in the hat. Each person draws a piece of paper.... Here is where it gets wild, each person opens their piece of paper one at a time revealing their pick! Whatever number they have drawn picks at that spot

i put every team name on tennis balls. Threw all of them out at once and which ever order my dogs brought them back was the reverse draft order. IT didn't go as smooth as i wanted, but it worked

That is actually a brilliant idea. Might have to steal it.

Everyone takes shots til they puke. First one to puke gets the last pick, etc.

For more fun, hold the draft immediately after.

I looked on Youtube for a clip of the draft contests used in "The League," but got no official "The League" hits. Did get some other interesting ones though.

Search The League Draft Order Race

P.S. In my league, we pick numbers out of a hat at the pre-draft meeting (lunch or happy hour) at which time we also discuss rule changes, but almost never make any. I also use that time to spread propaganda and mis-information.

We always just lick numbers from a hat.

But, one interesting idea I heard was to put each player/team name in the hat. Pull one at a time, but when pulled, you then select your draft spot out of the spots left. So, the first name picked can select any spot in the draft, so on and so forth. The folks at the end have less selection obviously.

the other is to sell the spots at an auction to the highest bidder. That money can then go into a pool for extras at the end of the season such as highest sinlge game score, most injuries, highest overall points etc

We had a beer pong double elimination tournament (3 cups only, shoot till you miss, no bouncing or fingering) right before the draft... Made for a fun draft as we had a bar rented out across the street from my house for the draft.

In one of my leagues, we do the normal picking numbers from a hat, but whomever has the #1 gets to pick his draft position rather than automatically getting the first pick. #2 then gets to pick his position. This is pretty cool, because if I draw a number outside the first 3 or so, I'd rather move to the end of round 1.

In an old league I was in, we would actually auction off draft spots for real money. That was cool, because it could add some serious dough to the prize pool.

i have sent this reco to multiple FFB sites the past few years and they havent given me any feedback

quote:

Every league has dedicated players that want to sign-up the day Fantasy Football opens up....but most leagues don't draft til week 4 of the pre-season... so you inevitably are stuck with "what's the hurry? we aren't even going to draft for another 6 weeks", and no one signs up til way late. Also, most leagues have selected "random draft order" that is generated 30 mins before the draft.

The idea I have is a mini-game of pre-season play that would put draft order as something you play for. All players are free-agents, and managers would pick a full starting roster each week leading to the draft....highest score before the actual draft picks his desired draft position, followed by 2nd,3rd,4th,etc.

You could pick Drew Brees and Adrian Peterson pre-season week 1, but they won't play much or at all, so you probably wouldn't do well.....which would make managers do research into who the 2nd/3rd/4th team..QB/RB/WRs are.

Here are a few things that I think would be accomplished if implemented:

1. Shift in early sign-ups from other FFB sites, as the people jonesing to play will migrate to early activity, and bring all the late players with them.

2. More Activity and Interest in Pre-season play which will level the playing field as nearly all managers start immersing themselves in FFB earlier before the actual draft...leading to fewer Draft Mistakes by uneducated managers who just wait til the last second to start research.

3. Higher traffic and ad sales

TL;DR

pre-season mini-game 9 starters only; highest scorer before the draft picks draft spot, and so on.

We take a suit from a deck of cards and draw cards. Goes from highest to lowest.

In my big league we do a weighted lottery. 12 teams. Last place team gets 12 chances, second to last gets 11, and so on. When your number is picked you choose your draft slot. Last year we used ping pong balls with the number on them in a dryer. It was a spur of the moment idea, this year we are making a homemade machine.

How our league works:

1. Write team names on individual ping pong balls.

2. Throw in dryer.

3. Cycle for 1-minute/year of league existence.

4. Team drawn gets to select draft position based on remaining spots.
