Tell me, is my view on the draft really THAT crazy?

So for some reason some friends members and I decided to have a little "debate" about the draft...when I gave my opinion everyone looked at me like I was joking or something. Just for reference my friends is pretty average politically, some more conservative and some more liberal but all pretty close to the center.
For the sake of this argument let's assume that a draft has been deemed necessary for survival. I don't want to get into a debate about whether or not a draft should happen or not. This is all assuming a draft is in place.
Basically I think that, if there were a draft, the selection should not be random. Instead it should follow a set of stages (in order of priority):
1) People living off unemployment/ the "government tit" as you all like to say
2) People with no high school diploma / working unskilled minimum wage jobs
3) People with no college degree
4) People with no children
And for the record I think single women with no kids should be included. If they want to be equal to men in every single respect, then they have to be.
So tell me is this really THAT ridiculous? Is random selection really the only way a draft could be reasonably implemented?

If there is ever another draft, the situation will be so bad that everyone will be drafted regardless of the factors you propose.

Not that I would want to be drafted, but people who know karate should be on top of the list.

hmm, I wonder how well an army filled with the uneducated and unmotivated will fare against a motivated enemy?

No, and in fact, you'd want the opposite. You don't want the uneducated and ignorant fighting in modern combat.
In both the Army and Marines, there is a general trend in that, the closer you get to the line, the soldiers become gradually more intelligent and come from slightly wealthier backgrounds. Take a look at an in-depth study of the KIA and WIA from Iraq and Afghanistan some time. About 85% are white males, the vast majority of which are middle class...they only comprise about 32% percent of the military-aged population in the U.S. and about 58% of the military-aged males.
It is difficult enough to lead motivated and reasonably smart kids in environments like that.

You gave a good model for what a draft should be.

A military full of deadbeats. That should scare our enemies.
And as for your women idea. I'm pretty sure marriage rates would skyrocket while divorce rates plummet.
Women should have to register for the draft the same as men if they really want to be equal.

It would be good to make those people productive and maybe instill discipline in them.
It would be a poorly effective army though

That's how it worked during 'Nam, and it was the shittiest state of our armed forces (okay, Army) in US history.

Already have a lazy work ethic and are probably in terrible shape.

You mean Mexicans?

3) People with no college degree
I'm not sure what this has to do with anything. I don't have a college degree but I do have a business which produces goods and generates tax dollars for the government. I guarantee I'm a lot more valuable to the economy that some punk fresh out of college with no real world experience.

4) People with no children
Again has nothing to do with anything. I have no children but just like number 3 that does not render me invaluable to the economy.
The draft is mainly based on what it should be, youth. Since fighting is a young man's game. Things would have to be pretty bad for anyone over say 30 to have to worry about getting drafted.

As others have pointed out if circumstances are so dire you want a draft initiated, but you then want the lowest form of people in society fighting for our country. Lazy, out of shape, uneducated people shouldering the burden of whether the U.S. will be changed forever.
I have a feeling you'd be drafted under your scenario.

So when your future and freedom are at risk, you want the laziest and dumbest trying to protect us.

I think random is best. If you had the draft you would stop never ending wars. There would be a lot of pressure on politicians from families to get the job done and get there kids back home.

Not crazy, just bad. Especially #1. Serving in the military requires more than putting on a uniform, even with a draft. I don't want an Army full of untrainable deadbeats.

Yeah because sending the frail elderly to war and creating more orphans for the country is a great idea.

Let's hope you're never actually in charge
Of anything.

I don't think you understand how modern infantry units work.
