I appreciate all the parenting advice!
East Coast - thanks for the suggestion.

Don't do it. When he finds it, it'll lead to one of those awkward "Hey, dad. Do you know anything about this?" moments.

There are plenty of 17 year old's that can be trusted. If your's can't then maybe someone should put a tracking device on your vehicle.

This. I'll never forget my first weekend with my truck. My buddies came up with the bright idea that we should go see the Alamo. We were in South Louisiana. Made it to BR and turned around.

Don't listen to those who don't have kids. Much less driving age kids. There's a Garmin tracking device you can get. Shove it down in the backseat, sign up for a monitoring subscription.
That is just dumb... Kids with parents like you end up emo or raging addicts after leaving home because you have sheltered them so much.

If you would have raised him worth a crap you wouldn't have to worry about tracking him. He is set in his ways now and will do whatever he wants.
Congrats on at least one of the following:
Your son getting his first DUI at 18
Your son getting an STD
Your future grandchild
Your son being a victim of the war on drugs
Your son failing out of college
Your son being a nobody for the rest of his life.

Wow.
Just wow.
Don't be a helicopter parent, and if you are going to be creepy like that, just track his cell phone.

Is your kid half retarded? After you catch him once with this thing, he'll figure out how to find it and use it against you or just do the same hood rat things in his buddy's car. He's 17 he's going to do what he wants regardless of how you feel.

I'm buying my son (17) his first truck
This is where you went wrong...
I had to get a job, then purchase my first vehicle. My dad let me borrow his truck ONLY to go to work and back home. My first car was a total POS, but much was learned from owning that one first.

If you go through with this 633tiger be ready to be lied to by your son on numerous occasions. Horrible decision imo

I did this to an ex of mine. I found out she sold the car a year after we broke up. She never found out About the tracking device though

So he's a terrible parent for being a little too concerned about his child?
I'm against the tracking device, but come on.
