Nolan Ryan is a HOF and a freak of a talent but he has no idea what he is talking about medically. He was an anomaly. None of those old pitchers can pick their arm above their head. Watch a professional team warm up, 20 bucks says you won't see a former major leaguer throwing BP.

Shoulder injuries have gone down tremendously thanks to monitoring pitchcounts and the like.

I think the problem is guys throwing so hard. Its incredible the amount of high school and college arms that are in the 90's.

Fully agreed on your assessment of Nolan Ryan.

The solution is not getting guys to throw 140 pitches every 4 days. He is just a freak, like Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt, where normal rules don't apply.

Bolt ate nothing but fast food in the week preceding both Olympics. I don't think anyone is suggesting we force feed our Olympians with McDonalds before they compete.

There was a pretty good article posted last week about it. Seems like it's mostly guys wanting to throw so hard now, they develop mechanics that put more stress on the elbow. It's probably not the only reason, but it doesn't help

This. I had a joke lined up about Tom Brady and advanced drag physics, but I let it slide.
