The guy I usually work with was discussing the better load distribution using the RT-E mounts.
I'll have to read up more on this. They do look nice, but I see more penetrations. Also, I didn't see stainless steel hurricane rated bolts in the picture so I will go look back.

I like more of a pole/tracker design than roof mounting myself. Boosts output and easier for any maintenance.
There's going to be options for not even having to go on your roof very soon. You want a carport? You want some window shades? Very cool things. AND, the fed credit is expiring 12/31/16, the cost is going to continue to come down for solar because the industry knows they are losing that. Batteries are getting smaller and better and cheaper.

A friend that runs PM for major installs (4MW backlog this year) says batteries will drop 30% in cost within 3 years.

I make too much money in my full time job to do this on the side.
I'll design and install stuff for friends, but that's it.
Well that's cool. Solar companies aren't just raping people though. You doing this for a friend means you have no overhead. You can do 1 job and the means to do it isn't that crazy and you can take time. You order the parts for 1 job. When a company is installing nearly 200 jobs a month, you have to have a lot of insurance coverage, admin, engineers, installers, products in a warehouse, office space, etc etc. And customers want that installed in 1 day and for these solar companies to take care of all paperwork including the utilities, permits, and HOA's. Comparing what a "mom and pop" can do as far as 1 job a month to 200 isn't fair.
ETA: And I should add the 10 year install warranty I got with mine. You gonna cover your buds forever?

Components are warrantied, the install won't be an issue unless the roof needs repairing.

'm all for it.
I'm not here to bash it. we just suck at it and i wish we were better at electricity in general.
Nothing any of you have said contradicts that we suck at it.
That we suck at electricity? We dont suck at it, if you need that explained to you, you arent worth the time.
Technology and regulators are heading int he right direction for renewables. Its a political process to invest in new technology, its going to take time.

There's only 1 panel that I know of that gives 25 years bumper to bumper warranty. The rest are 25 year production, 10 on the parts & labor. Someone will have to get on the roof, remove panels, flash test the micros or panels to see what's going on, and change out the micro. Also, someone will have to work with the manufacturer to order the parts on the warranty exchange.

There's more than just roof repairs that can go wrong with an installation as listed above.
Do you have contractor's insurance? What if you fell off your friend's house, do you have contractor's liability, etc? Just giving some ideas that it's not all profit for solar companies. You have to pay sales people too. Not everyone has a guy next door who can do an install from start to finish.

$15 million for solar panels? They will pay themselves off in 20,000 years. Solid.

Solar panels on a camp. Brilliant.

I don't know the rules for his power company, but most companies don't give you a check every month if your power generated exceeds usage.
You only get something when you close that account and a balance still remains.

I have 26 panels. Maybe 6.75 kW. Don't quote me on that. I'll look later
Posted on 4/2/15 at 4:38 pm to LSUWhoDat
Soon you'll be able to do 10k with 12 panels.
