If you really want to spend $200, St. Croix makes some decent rods for that price (Tidemaster Inshore). I've never spent over $150 for an entire rig though.

It's not the rod. It's the action you got in it.

You are exactly right fish all day with a revo on a ugly stick and then fish all day with a $70 reel on a good rod see which one works better for saltwater or freshwater

I use Ugly Stik Lites all day long when fishing and I don't have Popeye forearms. 40 bucks. They last. Solid rod and I've been on charters that use them. That said I'm sure the Falcon's are the same way. You don't have to spend that much. You could pair it with a nice reel for under 200 bucks.

He just had the one.

Well in that case, he'll need something pretty versatile. I'm assuming it's a baitcaster he had?

If so, I'd look at

This in 7' medium-heavy

This in 6'10" medium-heavy Fast

This in 7' Medium-heavy Fast

or

This in 7' Medium heavy

I've used that falcon and it's a good rod. I personally own the Dobyns and it's easily my favorite bass rod that I have.

If it's a spinning reel he uses none of those will work, just be aware.

It's the fisherman. Not the rod, dog.

No shite but the equipment u use makes it easier on you your a damn idiot if you the a fricking ugly stick is just as good as a good rod will an ugly stick get the job done sure I fish with them sometimes but if your a bass fisherman there are way better options know what I mean

If you don't think a good rod makes a difference, then you haven't fished with a nice rod.

Of course, if you're fishing under a cork or a topwater bait you can see, it doesn't really matter (well the action techinically matters for topwater baits but sensitivity is unnecessary)

Revo SX for $120 and a good allstar rod puts you right about that price point
