That team would've had a decent shot at the playoffs which is a lot better than the team has done since then. Since it seems the goal is playoff appearances I don't think the fanbase would be all that disappointed.

Well, the "fanbase" tends to appreciate the veto. The people who are outraged by it are Lakers fans, Houston fans, and similar mouth-breathers like Bill Simmons.

They'd have been an extremely mediocre team with little chance to improve. Now we have a true star to build around.
