How has this thread gone this long without a Tom Hardy mention?

Sam Worthington

Honestly, I'm convinced Sam Worthington sold his soul to Satan in order to be the lead in the highest grossing film in history. The guy has no talent, he's pretty average looking, and he's always a wet towel when on screen. Seriously, I had never heard of the dude, and suddenly he's listed alongside Christian Bale as the lead in Terminator? As if I was supposed to know who this clown is? Something supernatural had to happen to his career.

The old school action genre lives on in the straight to dvd market. Marko Zaror is a big star there you might want to check out.

Once these old fricks start breaking their backs and have heart attacks, I'd be shocked if Hardy doesn't become a mainstream action hero.

"Hollywood" has tried really hard to push Taylor Kitsch on us in the last few years

I want to see him succeed because tim Riggins is one of my favorite characters ever. He was atrocious in John Carter, but I'm not sure that was entirely on him.

Don't think Reynolds could really pull if off, Cooper may be able (I thought "I could see it" when that rumor that he was cast as Indian Jones), but its a damn shame Gosling isn't an action hero already.

They didn't need a star to sell it so they didn't cast one.

Most of those action movies came out in the late 70s early 80s and it was all about the macho, action figure, type characters. It was a celebration of being a man. Now, most 20 something's have meckbeards, wear skinny jeans, and couldn't hold Jesse Ventura's mini gun, or utter the line "I'm a god damn sexual tyrannosaurus" with any sort of believability.

But he was still cast in Terminator and given equal billing as Christian fricking Bale, a legitimately incredible actor. The guy had had bit roles before this film, and all of the sudden he's being billed on the same level as Bale as if we should recognize him? Seriously, look at this poster:

For comparison, here's the Hunger Games poster, and Jennifer Lawrence had already been lauded and nominated for an Academy Award, but despite the fact that she's the star of the film has no bold credit on the poster:

I think he got his recognition in Hollywood circles just for being the lead in Avatar. Even though it came out after Terminator it was in production for so long he must have gotten some recognition for it.
