That's weird. I played club soccer growing up but tryouts in high school were open to anyone. Several guys made the team that never played upper level competition

I have no first hand knowledge of it happening. I've just heard of it. Of course tryouts are open to anyone but HS coaches already know who the good players are by the time they get to HS because they scout the travel leagues. So if a coach has seen you play travel ball and likes you, you'll probably make the team regardless of how you perform in tryouts.

Gotta agree. I'm anti-DH rule. I guess I should be pro-DH rule now that my Astros are in the AL, right?

Astros ....

Don't even get me started on that shitshow. I'm almost to the point where I think we should go full on statist on that organization because they can't run a business.

Never did me and friends focus on technique or frills, and joining the league would have involved a long bike ride in both directions. The sandlot came with certain set of odd rules though. Putting the ball through the window of one house in particular was a homer, need to find a new ball now.

Does the AL have more offensive production because of the DH rule?

Yes. I don't even have to look at the stats.

Man, I don't know. Since becoming a gay soccer fan, baseball is now my 3rd or 4th fav sport. I just think the DH rule doesn't make sense. Everyone in the field has to be in the batting lineup as well .... oh, except that guy. But it's not anything I'm too mad over.

Back in the day it was easy since kids played on sandlots unsupervised by adults and totally free of charge.

This. How many pick-up games do you see now? We actually made our own baseball field in Ford's Pasture that had constant use through spring and summer.

I'm curious, what part about being a conservative made you have mixed feelings on foreign born players in MLB?

Pretty sure he's more concerned with nationality than race. But maybe you read gooder than me.

I think it was more along the lines of being a baseball purist (always had some foreign talent but not to this extent) vs. being a conservative and believing that the owners should sign who they want.

There are many foreign players that I am huge fans of. Simmons, Cabrerra, Pujos....all are quality individuals who respect the game. (Really most foreign players do respect the game).

Not saying that my mixed views on it made much sense, but I have been a fan for the vast majority of my life and I wanted some input to get it straight in my head

Does it concern you that American born players are losing out on their opportunity due to immigrants?

Most of the foreign born players are not immigrants, they continue to live in their native country. It is no different than when American born basketball, soccer, polo players go and play in European leagues.

Not about Race you fricking retard

It was about the game as it was in the past compared to the game now (globalized). Quit turning this thread into something it's not.

Take your fricking liberalism somewhere else

This is an excellent point, and part of my views are that as long as they respect the game, country, and pay taxes like the rest of us......it doesn't matter.

I really just needed to bounce this off of some of the like minded posters.
I like anyone else can get confused about conflicting beliefs....and as a conservative I want to at least attempt to be consistent.

Sometimes you have to bounce things off of people to see where you may need improvement.

No, I'm rather enjoying your meltdown.

The moment you said your "conservative" values had anything to do with this...we all knew exactly what you were talking about.

It's okay if you admit it.
