I did not ask a trollish question. I stated in the OP that I have no issue with foreign born players (Andrelton Simmons is one of my favorite players).

Like I stated I was simply trying to gather view points. I have had some mixed feelings on the subject because I am a conservative....so I wanted to gage my feelings against everyone elses.

I usually value your opinion very much on this board.....I was NOT trying to troll. I don't do that.

At least not intentionally.

The rare combination Troll + Melt down thread.

Congrats!

This is not what I was going for...I was really not attempting to troll. I have had mixed feelings about this, and wanted to gather different view points.

FIFY

I'm not to wild about influx of foreign players, but I also don't like how thug culture has taken over the NFL and NBA.

I CLEARLY STATED that I have NO ISSUE with foreign born players the majors...and my concern is that I still like to see American born talent succeed. I DO believe that owners should have the right to go after what they want.

Clearly you do.

Otherwise you would not of issued your opinion regarding all those evil immigrants taking over "America's" past time.

There are 2 major dynamics at work...

1. Sport of Choice...
Back in the day American kids all wanted to grow up being baseball players. The ones who couldn't hack it went to other sports. Today, it is no longer the sport of choice for little kids. They have basketball, football, tennis, video games, eating donuts, soccer, etc. So, the pool of talented young US players is greatly diminished.

2. Must have early training...
Baseball is all about hand eye coordination and muscle memory. That must be developed at a VERY early age. By the time you are 9 years old you should have logged in at least 1,000 hours of practice. Back in the day it was easy since kids played on sandlots unsupervised by adults and totally free of charge. Now, everything must be in an organized association and it cuts down on real repetitions of the movements.

Other sports are not like this. If you are 16 years old and 6-8 you can be taught to play basketball in HS. If you are big, fast and strong at 16 you can be taught to play football. But if you are 16 and have never touched a baseball it's impossible for you to learn.

Latin Americans are imported for this very reason. Baseball is their sport of choice and they start playing at age 3.

Hope this helps.

You have mixed feelings because too many foreign players are taking jobs away from good old American boys?

Yeah, there are no racist undertones there what so ever.

Sooo.......because I asked for opinions on the influx of foreign born players in MLB over the last twenty years or so....that equates me as a racist?

If that is what you insinuate.....I feel sorry for you because you are obviously dumb as a box of rocks....or a race pimp liberal.

Thanks buddy.....you input is always valued.

It is amazing how a discussion about mixed feelings and requesting input can turn into a bash fest.

It works both ways though. We try and send a lot of our soccer players overseas to Europe so they can better perfect their craft since the leagues there are more developed. We're trying to do the same thing too with our rugby players. I think the Colombian exchange is good for both sides.

This is my major beef - but I will admit I gave up on pro baseball back when they went on strike. Gazzionairess were striking for more money to play a sport I would have done for free. pissed me off and I never watched again.

Could never contend with the NBA thugs and now the NFL seems to be going down the same sewer. I have no favorite pro teams in any sport now - only casually watch a game if nothing else is on. I do watch the super bowl.

College is where it's at for me - and even they are getting too much like the pros.

croquet anyone???

Don't blame your stupidity on conservatism, or better don't even try to use that word entirely with respect to you or anyone else with regards to that thought process.

Watch women's sports at the college level. They are truly the only "amateur" athletics left in America.

College football, basketball and to a lesser degree baseball are simply minor league teams right down to the marketing.

You are A frickING MORON!

This has nothing to do any feelings you ASSUME I may have towards other nationalities.

The great thing about having conservative values and serving in the military...is that I had the great opportunity to serve with wonderful people of different races and nationalities. And I have made great friends as such.

As long as a person is a quality individual....I don't give a flying frick what their race or nationality is...dumbass

true, the game is way over-coached now, along with too much focus on teaching technique at too young of an age.

Is this any different than colleges giving athletic and academic scholarships to foreigners? Are the colleges denying American kids the opportunity to go to school for free?

Again. Travel ball. As a matter of fact it keeps most kids who aren't at least middle class on the verge of upper middle class from playing at high levels. It's killing the great American pastime.
