It's cool that society pays you a super high salary and great benefits so that you can live a lavish lifestyle while the rubes in the flyover states deal with the messy stuff like raising the people who will pay your unobtainable-in-the-private-sector retirement benefits.

Yeah and other countries get wayy more time off for maternity leave.

At our work we have our ELB bank (extended leave bank). It is separate from our PL time that we use for sick days and vacations. We use it for FMLA approved events(injury, maternity leave, adopting a child). So technically...a guy could use it if he wanted to....if he adopted a child.

So basically if your wife would have say gotten cervical cancer after yall married(before you could have kids) and was made sterile from it...you would have divorced her since she was no longer of use to you?

plenty of employers provide maternity leave. it's just not government mandated (but kind of is via FMLA iirc)

That's a pretty big stretch from what I've posted even for you

Yeah it totally sucks. I'll have over 250 hours in my ELB bank by the time I have a kid(likely even more)....so between that and my short term disability coverage I'll be covered for about 12 weeks off.

No. Almost none. In fact, with home insurance and health insurance climbing every year I'll probably have to get a smaller house.

I don't know how you can raise children unless you're raking in serious money.

Not really

You said

1)you would never marry if you didn't want kids
2)you would never consider adoption

So if you were married and couldn't have kids on your own...one would conclude you wouldn't want to be married anymore based on those posts.

Or...if your wife found out she was sterile before you married...you would have never married her.

Once you make the commitment, you stick to it IMO.

That's clearly different.

Oh and for Casty McBoozer, the Lord provides if you do your part. I have a moderate income, my wife now stays home with our kids, and we have decent disposable income. It's all about choices.

Really? People make it through just fine without the biggest house, the newest TV and gadgets, the best shiny private school, etc. Sometimes it's hard, but they make it work.

I have an emergency fund. I'm too healthy (and wealthy, and wise) to pay exorbitant prices for something that I won't use.

I'm not saying I'm in favor divorcing over the fact your spouse cannot have kids. But let me ask you this. How often do you hear people say they're divorcing because they're "just not happy any more" or they're "grown apart", or "fell out of love"? Do you give it a second thought when someone gives one of those reasons why they're divorcing?

Bingo. Just because a kid grows up wealthy does not mean that kid will have a happy childhood or even turn out to b a good person.
