what I really don't get is people that get married and don't have kids.
They want to spend the rest of their lives with that other person. They want to build a life with that other person.
Pretty easy to get.

So the only reason you married and said vows to your wife was to have kids with her?

I just find the institution of marriage a lot more beneficial for people with kids.

Yes, but i've always wanted kids. So I was always going to marry.

I get what you are saying. And yes, it is more geared up to provide a stable environment to raise children.

So if you find out you and your wife can't have kids then you would get a divorce?

So you would have divorced your wife if after you married she got sick and recovered....but now couldn't have children?
Or would you have adopted?

Technically, some people say that pretty much IS the only reason...to provide a stable and loving environment in which to raise children. It's typically a religious view, like I know that's what the Catholic view is on it.
Not saying that's the be-all-end-all reason, but it does exist.

Why are you so worried about the earth? You think it will fail us in the 100 or so years the currently existing people will be on it?
Sounds like you adopted a stupid cause instead of having children.

Well I already have kids.
I've often thought about that. If I were unable to have kids and my wife wanted to divorce. I would understand. I'm not sure what I would have done in the opposite scenario.

I'm not pro welfare, but I would honestly fight against you in the shooting war to prevent forced sterilization of people whose worst crime is dependency.

That would seem pretty shitty of someone if they wanted a divorce over something you had no control over. It's one thing if you both agreed to have kids and then one changes their mind. But if something happens to make you "defective" in terms of having kids? I would imagine that is where that whole "for better or worse and in sickness and in health" part of your vows comes into play.

I would question my wife's commitment to me in general if she would leave because we couldn't have children.
What happens when those kids move out the house? She gone?

Yeah they already tried such tactics in Germany pre WWII
