My mother just got home from bringing my dad to the "assisted living" home and I told her about Walter's passing. She informed me that Walter was with my dad and Uncle Jeff when they met.

She was singing at the Chez Winn (sp) off Airline back in 1969.

Some of my favorite memories were sitting in our family living room listening to the LSU football games with my father and 2 younger brothers. The colorful radio coverage of the game made you feel like you were there! Condolences to the family. Walter Hill will live in LSU football lore forever! God Bless and as always Geaux Tigers!

I'd sit with my Dad in the car and listen...better reception. Memories I will always cherish and the reason I'm such a big LSU fan today. Thank you Walter Hill.

Final chapter of a great book. Not only was WWL a 'clear channel' but sometimes you could pick up LSU games easier and closer than 870 if you lived out of town. There was some radio network called "Pick of Dixie" that picked up night games. They didn't have their own announcers just would carry a particular radio crew. Needless to say since they carried these at night in the '70's there were a lot of LSU games.

Walter Hill has yet to be surpassed at his chosen craft.

Walter was a solid broadcaster and a true Tiger. He and John Ferguson were a great team covering LSU on the radio. I also have many fond memories. I also remember Walter saying right before each game, "Stations, get set for the kickoff."

I used to think I was one of the few who seldom got to watch LSU play on Sat night in TS. Reading the posts in this thread shows that so many of us shared a common experience.

Long before there was ESPN, some many of us were already 'watching' LSU play via radio Sat night with John Ferguson and Walter Hill.

One of my friends and I would sit in the car and listen to every word as a child. We could just see ourselves in TS ! May Mr. Hill RIP !

This is Mike, Walter's oldest son. My bother Steve and I have been following these posts since Lucy made the notification here Saturday. My Mom has not yet been able to read them; we are saving them for her.

LSU was a major part of my Dad's life, and along with the outdoors were his greatest loves outside his family. He followed all LSU sports for as long as he was able.

To all who have posted here, on behalf of our family, I say thank you. It warms our heart to hear again how he along with John touched so many for so long. We are proud of the work he did for so long and we are proud to have been able to share him with so many.

Thank you agiain.

Go Tigers.

Walter Hill and John Ferguson were such a part of my childhood. Watching Mr. Hill on WBRZ sports or the midday show with Jean Wheeler or listening to him on Saturday nights from Tiger Stadium made growing up in BR a special time. My prayers are with your family...God Bless

Gawd, you had to post one of the most embarrassing losses in LSU history (Tulane '73)?

My parents went to the game wearing big gold "25 Years" buttons, bc Tiger fans expected it was gonna be 25 straight years of beating the "Green Vomit". They came home after the game and threw the buttons in the trash.

On the bright side, notice how each play isn't accompanied by a commercial, like "This time out...play...punt...extra point... is brought to you by..."

Thank you Mike. Not only do I remember listening to your Dad and John Ferguson on the radio in the late 60s/early 70s, but also watching him host the 'Charlie Mac' show on Sunday mornings...

As Walter's youngest son let me add to what my brother posted earlier today by adding my thanks to all the Ranters who have posted since his death,
He told me many times how fortunate he felt being associated with LSU, and how much he appreciated the passion and the vigor of the LSU football fans.
All of you can rest assured he knew of you, through our many discussions about this site, and he always got a chuckle when I would read to him your posts after many games.
My mother and my brother are humbled by your comments and your well wishes.
Thank you

Steve Hill
