My thoughts exactly.

You DO qualify for a subsidy, assuming facts of the OP.
Not so sure about that.
I played around with the calculator on healthcare.gov for Mississippi. Single male, mid-twenties, no dependents. If you have a AIG of 11,491.00 you qualify for around 300$ subsidies per month depending on chosen plan. Drop the income to 11,490.00 and the subsidy goes to 0.
And like the OP said, forget about medicaid if aren't pregnant or a child yourself.
What I don't know is if the people that fall into the category of no subsidies still have to pay the no heathcare penalty. I'd like to think not but this is the government so it wouldn't be shocking. Be a hell of a thing to not have enough income to qualify but still be assessed the penalty.

Because I don't make a lot of money I can't afford a health insurance plan... however, a lot people think I should have one. Therefore, eventhough I can't afford it, I'm going to be charged (taxed) for not having it.
A lot of people believe that because when you consume medical services without insurance, the rest pay with no prospect of getting money back from you.
Your anger is misplaced at people you deem wealthy, as if they somehow stuck you with the mandate to carry insurance. You haven't taken advantage of benefits from the government before now because you didn't want to leech, but now you are going 180 degrees in the other direction because you didn't look into getting insurance before the deadline to sign up.
You're "happy, fricking happy" in your $8.50 and hour job, but you've littered this thread with how you could easily change your job for a higher paying one, but you want to be angry for those who can't do the same.
This thread is a you problem. Change your job, don't wait until the last minute to look it over and sign up for an insurance plan, and don't act like you won't accept government help. If you're all in for "benefits" now, a little advanced planning on your part will keep you from last minute maneuvering in the future.

Move to Ark. bro. We got you covered. Our governor will take care of you just like he did the state's teacher's union. He gave them 47 million dollars out of the state's general fund so their rates would only go up 10% instead of 50%. Didn't ask the voters about it, just did it on his own. He is accepting all the federal money he can get from the nation's taxpayers.

Not one Republican voted for obamacare and you blame the Republicans because obamacare taxes you for not having health insurance. You are a 404er.

NA...a health insurance pool spreads the cost amongst all those in the pool; the ante to get in the pool is reflected by the relative HEALTH liability of individuals in the pool.
Take a stroll through your neighborhood...and size up the relative health risk of the individuals therein. There is the reason for high premiums. High risk; and mostly due to poor health choices.
ObamaCare forces everybody into a pool which REALISTICALLY embraces and reflects the costs of these high risk individuals. The only way we ever get low premiums...is to not only FORCE people to buy insurance...but to FORCE people to police their health (risks). I.e., their behavior. I.e., herding cats.
"The poor will be with you always" (JC). Work hard...be honest...respect the brethren.
Good luck.

If you suffer an injury, there is no way you will be able to afford to pay your medical bills.
That cost will fall on the rest of us.
You are a potential moocher.
The cheap plans offered before Obamacare were worthless and paid for nothing...it was like having no insurance.

According to the gov't I'm probably due a decent amount of money or at least benefits....according to a lot of people I'd be a mooch for accepting them.....
If you are so smart and have it all figured out, why aren't you making more money?

So, Alabama isn't allowing obamacare, at least not for my annual income. And they aren't expanding Medicaid to where I can get it, yet I'm going to be taxed for not having insurance?
Alabama will cave on the expansion eventually. Just got to make fools of themselves first, like so many other things in our state's colorful past.

Oh when will my state accept the free money showering down from the federal government? Oh oh oh they are so "embarrassing" for not doing so.
This thread makes me sick.

What will make you "sick", gt...is when the Fed 'credit card' freezes up.
Obama will get his "fundamental change"; but it will look nothing like his grand Utopian vision with him riding off into a triumphant sunset. He'll learn the costly lesson that lying, playing the 'envy card' and manipulating ignorant and misguided people IS NOT the way to lead a nation.
Earth 2014. Live and learn.

You should. He's the reason you can no longer buy a catastrophic plan for under $100/mo.

So let me get this straight
You don't have insurance and are Ok with that except that a new law is going to require you to either pay a tax or pay for insurance you can't afford. Said law was so championed by this president that the law bares his name. Now that you realize what you will have to pay, because of the NEW LAW passed by OBAMA, you are mad at "rich" people????
What the frick!!
Furthermore, not sure who you work for , but if they had plans on offering healthcare insurance, now they can't afford it. Wanna guess why???
You got it,

That is pure and utter bull. But I'm sure you know the terms of my soon to be illegal plan better than I do.

He's right in a sense, BB. "Cheap plans" are cheap, because they generally have high deductibles. For a poor individual, paying the high d is a non-starter. So - in effect - they are *worthless*.
We could do the healthcare thing...but it would require FORCED COERCION OF BEHAVIOR, on the part of folk who indulge in costly behavior and can't personally pay for said indulgence. We are talking alcohol to being gay (AIDS). No way this happens in a political sense. The system will have to crash; and the effects of that crash will *educate*/motivate the folk to man up. What's left.

Well, then you are an idiot. He's the one mandating you pay. To ignore that is to overlook this entire debate. Most in your situation go bare, and either pay nothing for Healthcare, or just make a payment plan to hospitals when they do need it. Look, everyone don't need care.....read that again! Now imagine someone forcing you to have it....that Obama, and this whole debate. You sound like someone on Obama's peeny wanting to blame others, for his shite!
